Baylor, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse
Allegedly infiltrated sexual abuse survivor groups to gather intel.
Link not attaching for some reason, maybe one you of the nerd admins can add it
But if true,, Jeesh
Its not the lack of institutional control that's the issue its the institution

This story was first reported by that paragon of investigative reporting: trade publication PR Week ... because it involved the Baylor Communications Dept. and it's PR agency, Ketchum.
Here's the link to their article, published August 22, about the activities, which occurred in 2014-16 ... and some quotes: https://www.prweek.com/article/1491030/s...ult-crisis
PR Week Wrote:Baylor University infiltrated sexual assault survivor groups to shape PR strategy and talking points on how to handle the groups and student demonstrations, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
...
The issue came to light in August 2015, when former Baylor football player Sam Ukwuachu was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to 180 days in county jail. Ukwuachu is appealing his conviction.
...
In the same month that Ukwuachu was convicted, Baylor’s office of general counsel retained Ketchum for comms support, according to Jason Cook, Baylor’s VP for marketing and comms and CMO.
...
"Ketchum provided reputation management counsel to help Baylor University address the serious issues of sexual violence and student safety," a Ketchum spokesperson said in a statement. "Our goal is to make meaningful change within the institutions we counsel."
One source familiar with the matter identified the "mole" as Matt Burchett, director of student activities at Baylor, whose job is to coordinate student pursuits such as picnics, parties, and demonstrations. The source said Burchett, acting as a liaison with university officials, played damage control on their behalf.
Burchett helped to arrange demonstrations for survivor groups and passed on what he learned to school officials and the communications department, sources said.

Baylor needs to be shut down. Not athletics, but as a University as a whole.
The stories never seem to end. Pathetic.

Meanwhile, Ken Starr just became a plaintiffs' lawyer, joining the Lanier Law Firm in The Woodlands. More than politics, it's money that makes strange bedfellows.

RE: Baylor, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse
All of the recent reports of Baylor's reprehensible behavior are coming from one place. Plaintiffs attorneys trying to intimidate Baylor (or rather Baylor's insurance company) into settling lawsuits. Baylor's insurance company doesn't seem willing to settle, evidentially feeling they have a good chance of prevailing in court. If Baylor doesn't settle and the plaintiffs lose, the lawyers don't get paid. I know you probably won't believe it but this one is total BS.

Nobody settles until the last minute, so their unwillingness to settle means little until court times looms, and their dirty laundry gets a new airing-out, IMHO

I talked with a female athlete who had transferred from Baylor (not to Rice) because of the issues there....she said that she was scared and wasn't alone...I don't think she is a plaintiff's attorney since she was still in college but maybe I am wrong.

On the subject of grossly morally unacceptable programs... a trustee of tOSU has resigned citing the weak sauce penalty doled out to Urban Meyer.

RE: Baylor, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse
Since I have opined on earlier revelations about the Baylor scandal, stating that I thought they were trumped up by plaintiff attorneys I feel I have to be fair on the things that I believe to be accurate. Much to my sorrow and shame, I believe the recent accusations against former Board of Regents Chairman, Richard Willis are accurate. I am not sure I can express the shock and disgust that his racist, sexist, and bigoted statements have elicited from the Baylor circles I belong to. I so wish I could tell you it was just more maneuvers by lawyers to get a bigger settlement. This time I can't.
