It's a safe bet that most of the fans filling M.M. Roberts Stadium on a football weekend don't know who John Miller is.
He may not have the name recognition of the University of Southern Mississippi football coaching staff, but the Southern Miss coaches will tell you Miller is every bit as important to the Golden Eagles' success as anyone else on the staff.
"The things he does allow us to get our job done on the field," USM assistant head coach Randy Butler said. "I know he makes my job easier; he makes everybody's job easier with all the stuff he does. His job description is: Everything else that's not covered. That's what he does."
Miller is USM's assistant director of athletics for football operations. His duties include coordinating all of the team's travel and all recruits' official visits; overseeing head coach Jeff Bower's schedule, as well as those of the assistants; serving as the school's liaison with NFL scouts; and coordinating everything that has to do with the players off the field.
"It's a unique job, because it's something different every day," Miller said.
