CFB Five Year Rankings
CFN has a new 5 year analysis for all 130 FBS teams. CUSA has some surprises and some observation that are not such a shock. Here's the rankings and my thoughts relative to our teams:
38. Western Kentucky. Hilltoppers have had the very best 5 years in CUSA. Only Boise State and Houston rank higher among Non-Cartel. Is the Party Over? Probably for this year.
54. Marshall. Still the Greatest Story in CUSA East and Most Consistent year in and year out. Steady as you go? Yep.
65. LA Tech. Valuable addition to CUSA West with rich history along with Southern Miss. Always in the running? Dang right.
75. Middle Tennessee. Pretty successful. Best overall sports in CUSA. Will MT ever actually win a championship in FB? If not this year, probably not.
82. FAU. Sucked for awhile. But rocket has been launched. Will Kifffen take 'em to CFP or New Year's Day Bowl? They got a puncher's chance.
86. USM. Golden Eagles #1 Anchor Program in the West. Are they back now? Hell Yea!
89. UNT. They've had moments and growing pains. Does this sleeping Giant awaken? Think so.
93. UTSA. Underwhelming and way too soon. Are they on the rise? Yes they are.
95. RICE. Rich History. Rich Alumni. Rich Endowment. Crappy FB Program. Could they commit to FB excellence? Only if they wanted to do so. They don't.
103.ODU. From FCS to FBS with modest success. Committed to Win? Yes.
115. FIU. Great Potential. Underachievers and a Big disappointment. Butch turns it around? Think he will.
116. UAB. Like Lazarus from the Dead. Is UAB going to move it on up? You Bet.
123. UTEP. Shame on the Miners. Only game in El Paso. Should they get better? Of Course. Will they? Not this year.
129. Charlotte. (See UTSA) Having 7 or 8 FBS Programs in NC doesn't bode well. Can they compete? Too early to determine.

Obvious why if it goes from 2012-2016 to 2013-2017. Luckily the next year will do away with the 2013 season, so a good season this year would bump it back up.

I am glad to see USM ranked no lower considering they had one no win season and one season with only one win in the five years considered.

RE: CFB Five Year Rankings
I think FAU is ranked where they should be ranked. And I do not see a dramatic improvement this year, because the season that would drop off is 2013, where we were 6-6.
6-6, 3-9, 3-9, 3-9, 11-3

6-6, 3-9, 3-9, 3-9, 11-3
Ok, so FAU is ranked at 82 with this five year record.
6-6, 3-9, 3-9, 3-9, 11-3
While ODU is ranked at 103 with this five year record.
8-4, 6-6, 5-7, 10-3, 5-7
And during this period, ODU and FAU played four times and split the series at two wins each.
So -- can someone please explain to me why FAU is ranked 21 spots ahead of ODU for this five year period?

ODU AGGIE: Ain't no rhyme or reason. And, I'm certainly no fan of the Lane Train. However, it might be the man crush that some media outlets have for Kiffin, the fact that they have a Bowl ready stadium sitting on a beautiful beach, and a Champeeenship last year to bump 'em up. Other than that ya'll are purty even.

We will see after this year when Lambert is gone. He's a nice guy but has no business being a head football coach at this level.

RE: CFB Five Year Rankings
We had a great run, its over at least this season....Maybe next season we get some mojo back, however this coaching staff has a lot to prove and with half the staff from Indiana St. or just started coaching I am not too confident and overall disappointed with or lack of experience on coaching staff......At least OL coach now has a solid resume and DC is not too bad, everyone else too green or sucked at Indiana St....

I don't know the reason. I can suggest that, perhaps, the most recent seasons are weighed more. Other than that - I do not have a clue.
P.S. Were ODU a full-time C-USA program in 2013?

RE: CFB Five Year Rankings
Might be on to something there. We weren't eligible till 2015 in cusa so 2013 14 was transition year 1 and 2014 15 was 2nd year and elible. Toss a 0 in for one of our years and that might make the math work.
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Depends on which of their rankings you're looking at, but I think the one mentioned includes attendance, APR, elite wins, etc.

CFB Five Year Rankings
Yeah, I don't really understand the rankings. Southern Miss is #86 with a 28-36 (43.75%) record over the past 5 years
Has to be more weight on the past couple of seasons I guess
