A commotion about nothing? A “kerfuffel”? Was it a kerfuffel when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

The Mayor of Toledo is a doing his best backtracking. First of all he went to Michigan, yet, professes his allegiance to OSU and that pack of bandits. If he loves OSU so much, why didn't he go to Graduate School there? Simple answer - Michigan will provide a much better education. If I lived in Toledo, I would not have voted for him just because of his allegiance. Seems like a good enough reason to me.

RE: No hard feelings between UT, mayor as Rocket Week kicks off
Comes off way too insecure for my UT fan side to get upset about this. At the worst, a bit of insensitivity but even a Mayor of a small town can get celebrity eyes. Reality check, both the UM and the OSU coaches were born here, UT's wasn't. This is a new mayor with bigger problems than letting every move be dictated by what a few non-local UT fans might consider important.
It's a pass people. Give it a pass. That's the way to get people on-board. The guy will realize, in the UM or OSU stadiums he's no more than you or I. But in the Glass Bowl, his presence matters. He can make a difference.
That's pretty much my measure of the guy, he wants to make a difference. We've even read how he patiently talked to some numbskill who has done nothing in his life, took to a bullhorn outside the Mayor's house in Old Orchard. And again, when some other numbskulls whose "brother" with uncountable number of arrests and admittedly mental issues got killed in a Police action after pointing a gun at them, took to the Mayor's house about how unfair it all was. I know I couldn't have risen to that level of civility if someone came to my family that way.

He needs to sing the Rocket Fight Song acapella at halftime of the BG/UT game. That would work for me.

Pretty solid article by Dave Briggs. He definitely seems to be more pro-UT than his predecessor Dave Hackenberg ever was. Even though Hack was a pretty polished journalist, he seemed to be condescending at times to the Rockets, whether it was warranted or unwarranted.

Am I recalling right, Briggs is a graduate of that other school? I think he's just doing his job but if it's more, that's good too.
The department as a whole seems up. More local reporting on the high schools, across all the leagues. Still a little focus on a particular team but even that seems to be moderating. Seems like more local reporting on the Universities too, with a good bit of originality. Some ideas I'm pretty sure are being parsed from message boards but that's ok, it must be of interest.

My only question is, why doesn't the city fly UT flags every day, 365? After all, the University is a huge economic engine for the city, so you might think the city would want to take every opportunity to promote it that it can.

Everytime I've mentioned for, oh five years or so that UT should OWN Secor, banners on the poles I usually get backlash, not worth the time, the money....
Glad the crowd is starting to catch up.
So I'll reiterate, all the approaches should be UT. Even EMU does it now. I'd even put the fight song out there on game days.

I didn't read the story, but from what I've seen on TV, Wade seems to be putting forth a genuine and visible effort which is cool.
They should put the Welcome to Toledo signs with the Rocket logo that Mike Bell had made back up. Those were great.

Yep, you are correct... Up in Ypsilanti, there are EMU banners hung around the downtown/business district.
Huntington, also did this a lot, with Herd signs in storefronts and flags everywhere...

Nobody did it better than the folks of Laramie, WY, you definitely knew where you were, who the hometown team was, and who they were supporting.
