Curious game for North Texas women's basketball
They're playing Xavier-New Orleans of the NAIA. No big deal, right? Men's and women's CUSA teams have hosted NAIA opponents before and will certainly do so again this season.

But North Texas is playing at Xavier. It's part of a two-game series. And it's not even Xavier's most prominent home game — that's Auburn.

There's got to be a really interesting story here, right?

They also play 2 more NCAA D1 games on the road. From what I read, they are some kind of NAIA Women's superpower. Apparently it's not out of the question that they win those 4 games.

NAIA doesn’t have the same rules we do so they can do a lot more I wouldn’t be surprised if they paid good money to get those homes games.

They must have but I can't imagine Auburn really needing the money. Their record last year doesn't look great against teams I've never heard of, they lost 59-50 to ULL and 70-44 to Auburn. Those were both away games for them, I don't know what they have done to get these schools to come to them.

Can't tell if we are just going all-in as the fanbase who cares too much about other team's schedules and taking it up a notch by going out west into women's basketball... or if there is a real issue here. Astounding!

Well, I think there's plenty of programs that would like to get a H&H with Auburn. Not that they are a juggernaut in WBB but they bring an SEC name to town. I think we're just wondering how an NAIA team managed it along with a couple of other Div I teams.

Yeah, that's the kicker. NAIA teams will play AT D1 schools; we may debate the usefulness or optics of those games for the D1 team, but it exists and will continue to do so until/unless the NCAA disincentivizes the practice. But how do you get D1 programs -- one of which is an SEC team that went to the NCAAs two years ago -- to come to your gym?

If nothing else, UAB should be able to get a home-and-home with Auburn now. If Auburn big-times them, they can throw the roadie to an NAIA in their face.

My guess, and take it with a grain of salt, is that those schools agreed to come down because of fertile recruiting ground. Just a guess though. Could be way off the mark.

Or, maybe....New Orleans? I doubt they get those visitors if they are in Waxahatchie, Texas.

Perhaps, but Tulane and New Orleans are in the city and they're actually D1. Is the appeal of the town that great that they're willing to play at a much smaller school in defiance of D1 scheduling orthodoxy? Hampton Roads is a good recruiting area in football and hoops but you don't see D1 schools playing at Virginia Wesleyan, Christopher Newport or the Apprentice School.

I have heard of teams scheduling games in places like NOLA as a treat for their players.

But maybe not.

They’re exhibitions for Xavier, not the D1 schools.
