NAIA WBB Program to Host Auburn, North Texas at Home
http://www.xulagold.com/news/2018/8/22/wb-schedule.aspx

Am I missing something here...? I’m looking at Auburn. No, not the Montgomery one. And North Texas visiting Xavier (La). Were those teams that desperate to get to NOLA? UNO and Tulane unable or unwilling to host?

RE: NAIA WBB Program to Host Auburn, North Texas at Home
I first thought that maybe they had a game in the area (like LSU) and since they were in the neighborhood...you know, make the trip worth the gas money.
And that is the case for Auburn. They play Univ Louisiana Lafayette on Nov 25, 3 days before Xavier NOLA. All other Auburn opponents are d1.

But UNT... naw... they are going to drive to NOLA just to play Xavier. UNT opens with d3 Mary Hardin-Baylor and then NAIA Mid-American Christian Univ. Then before they start CUSA play, that have another NAIA- Oklahoma Panhandle State.

Xavier NOLA is playing 4 d1 schools this season (so better put them on the d1 move up watch - whatdoyathink, a travel partner for UTRGV in the WAC? 05-duck)

Add them to the Great DavidSt Conference.

Nicest arena in the NAIA. That's an on-campus facility.

Way better than Tulane and especially Sacramento State's arena. They really should move up to D-I.

They are a HBCU so thier option would only be the SWAC and I think they are full.

Not necessarily. HBU went straight from NAIA to Division I.

HBCU's don't HAVE to be in majority HBCU conferences. Hampton just moved to the big south.

Xavier-Louisiana does not sponsor enough sports to be eligible for D2. They have 9 total sports (4m/5w) and only 1 men's team sport.

I have a family member who is a college coach and plays Xavier yearly and from their understanding they have no intention of moving up any time soon.

No one suggested they were. We're saying with facilities like that, they should.

The facilities are great, but if I had to guess with them being a small private university travel cost would eat them alive.

Right, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference has a nice tight little footprint. 3 of the members are in New Orleans itself, and add Loyola NO from the Southern States conference for an OOC rival and it's a pretty good setup for them.

They did spend some serious money on the facility, it's just a few years old, but it is dual purpose: it is called the "Xavier University Academic Convocation Center"

GCAC's footprint has grown this last decade.

Nice and compact with the three NOLA schools (used to be four when Loyola was there), but the short trips to Jackson, MS and Mobile, AL which existed last decade were replaced with Jacksonville, FL (Edward Waters) and Denmark, SC (Vorhees, which thankfully left the league).

I do not see schools like this one moving up anytime soon. They would be like Presbyterian who do not belong in D1. Comparing their size? Bellevue and Indiana Wesleyan are the only schools that could fit in D2 for their size.
