True story- Fuente went on 92.9 last year with Jason and John and told them about Genards official visit to memphis. He sought out the strength and conditioning coach and asked if he could work out. Fuente said he’s never seen that before, it was awesome and I’m so glad he didn’t transfer to ole miss

I carried a guy to the UCLA game last year who had never been to a Tigers game. Didn't know the players at all. He's an NFL guy all the way. He pointed at Genard in warm-ups and said, "That dude is an NFL player".

He's always had that look. Another under-rated, high ceiling guy that our last 2 coaches have been great at finding and developing.

That's a great story.

My understanding is that Justin told him he would not grant a transfer to OM and he was staying at Memphis. Genard finally came around.

Great read, thank you for sharing. We're going to miss walking muscle. Hope he crushes it in the league.

Accuracy might not be his strong point, but have to give it to him for creativity.

I thought it was a great recruiting job by Coach Norvell that kept him here.

The no release to ole miss is absolutely false.

Apparently Genard left during the 4th quarter with what is now believed to be a hip injury. I hate this for him but injuries are part of the game. Hopefully, it will turn out that he'll miss just a few weeks to the season...

The announcers on the game said that the DC told them that Avery was the second best pass rusher on the team.

Hope the injury isn't too bad, although he wouldn't have seen a bunch of playing time next week anyway. Perhaps he will be ready once the season rolls around.

True. He'll get rest over the next two weeks but it doesn't sound too serious. He's been a beast in camp and just continues to make plays on the field (like the strip/fumble last night). His ceiling is "off the charts" in my humble, biased eyes.

G. Williams is an awesome D coordinator and will utilize his unique skill set very well...

**Update**: Genard Avery ended up with a great rookie season. He played in all 16 games and finished with 40 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Not too shabby for a 5th round pick (#150) - he was a steal at that slot. Can't wait for next season to see his continued development and maturation. Thank you Memphis Tigers!
