I never realized how much Troy vs USA resembles Southern vs State
Or. Louisiana vs ULM, UTSA vs Texas State ....long list

I still say a true rivalry weekend could work in the Sun Belt. As noted on this thread, there is plenty of hate to go around.

Troy last yr and USA this yr have had home games on T'giving weekend and moved to Fri not to compete with Iron Bowl. Why not make Black Friday the permanent home for "battle of belt"? A lot better than a random Tues or Wed nite in October.

Half or more of the schools involved or more will be out of the running for the conference and a bowl game so much less fan interest. Students who you want to see embrace the program are at home for "rivalry weekend" so don't get the rivalry experience. Many other fans have family obligations and can't make the game.

Very True. In all honesty no one really wants a home game on that weekend. Midweek is better than that weekend.

GS/GAST is on rivalry weekend this year and it actually works out because the game will be in Atlanta and several of our students will be there for Thanksgiving anyway along with several of our Alumni who live there. The only drawback is having to compete with the other rivalry games of the day.

Valid points against last weekend. I guess my goal was to take a bad date and put something on the line to attract even more interest. I think our game is growing naturally just based on being rivals. I still think we can grow it even more. Looking at attendance numbers overall of all 6 games shows this.

I think the rivalry will continue to grow. Especially with the SGA’s and students from each school driving it. They will be the ones to grow it more than us old folks.

I meant as far as a small town traditional school with a decorated history vs a larger city nontraditional school with a newer program, and although the newer program is less decorated relative to it's older counterpart, it holds a newly made rivalry trophy because of a recent win against the other program that they use as their main talking point.

Describes TXST/UTSA to a T.

I say probably because Troy fans do browse this board.

Shouldn’t you be on the county commissioner’s door step begging for nickels?

Lol. USA had over 2 million more in athletic revenue and athletic donations last year than Troy per USA today. And USA has roughly 400 million more in its endowment. Dont worry, we will build our stadium, and we will do it in a way that doesnt result in an athletic department deficit anywhere near half of Troys current athletic department deficit of around 3000 bucks per year per main campus undergradute student.

Football will just be another sport we own the overall record in vs Troy. Nothing special and nothing new. Just give it time. Already beating them at home during their "best season ever". Lawl

At least our students show up to games.

Proving my point, Troy plays for championships, south just wants to beat Troy.

You don’t have a stadium. Is the elite donor parking lot at Smelly Field still gravel? You also just proved you can’t buy a winning season.
