"We're open to playing P5 home and home." Open? open? Why aren't we actively seeking it?

Now I have to read the article to figure out any context.
Maybe - we are open to playing P5 home and home however we haven't found anyone who will accept our offer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok. Back from the bat cave.
P5 games were mentioned as options when the new stadium is complete and wasn't specifically mentioned as options before then.

"When we're not televised, and it's our philosophy now, our kickoff is going be when Alabama and Auburn aren't playing. That's our plan so their fans can watch them on television and come and watch us play."
So our game times revolve around two other teams? It just seems like we're still catering to a fanbase that wont be at our games anyway.

RE: Latest Let's Cover Up Ingram's Incompetence Article
There are about one million potential UAB football fans in the B'ham metro area. Many can't or don't want to drive to attend every AU or Bama home game. Many may want to watch these teams play MAJOR games on TV, but might be tempted on other weekends to come to UAB games if the Blazers conveniently offer a quality product and an affordable quality experience for the whole family. FBHC Clark seems to be producing the quality product on the field so the rest is up to the UAB Athletic Department and the city (and later the BJCC).

I'd say a potential 10,000 UAB football fans living in the metro area.

Both numbers are essentially conjecture today and until tested by experience, we can't know for sure. The Blazers have only had one winning season in recent years so far so "the jury is still out" on its appeal within its market area. Aiming for one million leaves a lot of room for error on the lower side.

I'm guessing the opening games for both season aside, that you will not see a dramatic bump in attendance.
I think we would be fortunate to have 25,000 average this season (outside of the first game).
It takes quite a bit of time to get a following & if last season didn't get attendees to maintain their attendance throughout the season I am not sure what will.

By winning over the students, not an easy task, considering they are born and bred to be fans of other schools, you get someone hardwired to be a UAB fan..
By focusing on students, you will net other family members. I am the only member of my family who attended UAB, but my parents and siblings became fans through me.
Would really help if UAB grads remained in Birmingham area. That seems to be an emphasis(college grads) of the new Birmingham administration and the county.

I’m okay with this. Why create a game time that we know will be an issue. I brought an Alabama fan to a game last year and he had a blast. We drove home and watched the Alabama LSU game afterwards. I have an auburn and Tennessee fan I’ll do the same with this year. We need butts in seats, and i don’t care who they are right now. I have an extra ticket to each game just to try and bring another person in.

And this is not new. Its been done for years. I have no problem with it, although sometimes the game times are rather inconvenient for me. But its probably more convenient for others...

Yeah. And i don’t think we need to do it no matter what, but if we can give it a whirl. Nobody wants six 11 am home games, or 3 Thursday home games.

Selfishly, I love 11 AM games. I can roll out of bed, buy beer, make some scrambled eggs, watch the game, and be done with it by 12 PM PST.

Dissect those words. You can always find something to gripe about.

I read the article, and I found that quote intriguing. I submitted a post about it. Now tell me what is wrong with that? This is still a UAB message board. If negative comments about the AD are not allowed, someone should highlight that in the board rules.
I have always had an independent mind and judged things the way i saw them. There have been times when we've been on the same side of the argument, however, when it comes to the job the AD is doing, we are not. It is what it is. If my griping offends you block me.

The positive of trying to attract those living in the metro area is that they are HERE. A large number may have moved away from their "home school" in other (perhaps distant) states and may be football fans amenable to UAB marketing. Many UAB students who do graduate must often move out of state in pursuit of job chances or advancement (look at how many BlazerTalkers are currently living out of state) so both demographics need to be attracted to the program.
