Holy **** - do we really have to talk about what it would take to fire a guy who has only coached one game?

This has literally been my opinion of him since the day he was hired and would have been the opinion I had for literally any other person that assumed this job.

Chill out, it's a message board and a football expectations thread.

RE: FB Expectations
Criteria for Contract extension for Mike Bloomgren Year One, Game One:

1) Did we have a discernible offensive plan? Yes
2) Did we ever appear to have an adjustment of any kind? Yes
3) Did any QB or RB inexplicably turn the ball over without an apparent causation? No
4) Did he come to the press conference and complain about youth and injuries? No
5) Did we score more than two TD's? Yes

Looks like a perfect game one evaluation to me....

I haven't seen anyone mention the post-game video in the locker room. As everyone was getting ready to celebrate Bloom's first win, he was *already* discussing how the players would need to step it up in game 2. "If you think this level of play is good enough, ..."

A game which he won.

In fairness (though can't speak for anyone else)....

If I were AD, I'd have put in place some flexible plans that encompass 3 events....
1) what do we do if someone on the staff does something horrible
2) what do we do if that was the best game we have by far and recruits 'run'
3) what do we do if that was the worst game we play, Bloom goes to a bowl, David Shah goes to the NFL and Stanford offers Bloom $2+mm

Those plans would have been in place the day he signed the contract and I would adapt them at least somewhat every week as where we fall within those possibilities becomes more clear.

I think all three are unlikely right now... but I'm a planner... it's what I do and how I think. Doesn't mean I'm out for his job simply because I've thought about what I'd do.

Rule: Never abandon plan A until you know what plan B is.
Corollary: Always have a plan B.

Did the pass defense look any better than in the past? No. But overall, agree with your list. The adjustments to pull the game out, winning the turnover battle, great special teams play - all positives despite the closer than expected score. Compared to the Nichols St game, this was a better start.

The secondary will be a good test of Bloom's skill. Can he succeed (well, more like improve) where for the previous 11 years we have failed?
Over the course of the season, I'll be watching for several things:
1. Are the DBs in the right place at the right time or completely burnt and off-screen?
2. Do they turn around for the ball and attempt to make a play on it?

I'm relatively fine with our guys losing jumpballs to Wallace and such -- we're lacking measurables in these one-on-ones -- but I want them in the vicinity, attempting to make a play.

Wake just beat Tulane 23-17 in OT. Will be interesting to see how we compare in a few weeks.

I can't help but feel the collective sigh of relief around here. I'm with you. Can you imagine if we'd lost that game? That was nothing but true grit and determination. I always like to give credit where the credit is due. Prairie View was ready to play. I could see it when they took the field. They're our athletic/physical equal right now. Secondly, the coaches are the difference in this one. We have good coaches who prepared a team and made the proper adjustments to pull it out. Accolades to Lembo and Fox. My goodness what a great V. Let's go run over these Cougars

I can’t believe people are somewhat calling for heads already.

What was Harbaughs record the first year at Stanford?

No one is calling for heads. its just strawman outrage that seems to keep getting quoted. A poster made a statement on what his expectations are over the next 3-4 years. And what the minimum standard is at various points in this span. Isn't that the point of an expectations thread? To say I expect x after 1 year, 3 years, 5 years etc.

Again, no one is calling for heads. Not a single person here.
