@Brett_McMurphy

Last 7 years, 11 AP preseason Top 10 teams finished year unranked:

2017 No. 3 FSU
2016 No. 10 Notre Dame
2015 No. 6 Auburn, No. 8 USC, No. 9 Georgia
2014 No. 4 OU, No. 9 South Carolina
2013 No. 10 UF
2012 No. 1 USC, No. 10 Arkansas
2011 No. 8 Texas A&M

Who will it be this year?

9:05 AM - 20 Aug 2018

Also: Last season, 9 of the preseason top 25 were unranked in the final poll, which is pretty typical.

So, get in your predictions now for which of these 25 teams will be unranked after the bowls.

RE: Preseason AP Poll
LSU - they have a difficult schedule.
Oregon - I'm not sold on Cristobal as a head coach, and they have neither a good defense nor an offense consistent enough to win 9+ games with a poor defense.
UCF - not the best team in the AAC this year, maybe not even in their own division.
Michigan - moderately difficult schedule; probably don't have a QB who can win 9+ games.
WVU - could have picked UT here but I'll give Herman an edge over Holgo.
Miss State - non-con schedule is soft, and I suppose they have a good chance at a top 25 finish based on going 4-0 there, but I have a hard time seeing them roll over everyone other than Bama and Auburn.
Florida State - pundits always overrate the prospects of teams with a brand-new head coach. (Also: Oregon, UCF, Miss State.)
Stanford - hey, gotta give me this one.

Cristobal was 23-27 with Hilton and 4-20 without they went 2-5 with Hilton injured but used sparingly in 2009.

One more stat about preseason top 25 rankings:

Quote:Ralph D. Russo
‏@ralphDrussoAP

I've tracked the last 11 years and the average is 5.5 teams that start the season ranked in the top 10 finish ranked in the top 10.

If you're an Athletic subscriber @MattBrownCFB went even deeper with research on poll trends because doesn't have kids and has a lot of free time.
