What I mean is the top 2 should be the only ones getting snaps in the opener. It isn't tee ball where everybody gets a chance a bat just because they are there. JMO.

True but you have to protect against injury in a game out of reach vs. an opponent with sloppy technique. If it's 35-0 in the 2nd, there is no use of making it 80-0. Let the 3s and 4s get game time and build depth for later in the year when injuries ultimately do happen.

RE: Starting QB....Who?
Candle continues to provide no hints as to who is leading the QB race. Seems like the lack of a published depth chart is a calculated move to keep the players motivated given the number of starter jobs still uncertain.

And no hints from Brian Wright, Mitch or Eli either.

I think Peters has the inside track, just so UT can continue the tradition of Ealey, Ely, Eli at QB. Gotta be a kid named Ealy somewhere they can recruit next.

MItch adds a new dimension to the offense--a QB who can run.

Had a QB last year that could run. Could pass really, really well also.

Congrats to Mitch. I guess the Ealey/Ely/Eli trend will have to wait. Although it was also reported on twitter that Peters will play against VMI.

I gotta say though, with 5-6 real weapons at WR and 3-4 at RB, there is no way Guadagni should have to spend much time a all running the ball.

Things are starting to become much more clear...no need to worry about fooling VMI, at least I hope!

The article also said:
RB DEPTH: Despite returning accomplished rushers in sophomore Shakif Seymour and junior Art Thompkins, Candle said Kentucky transfer and Springfield alum Bryant Koback has earned playing time. “I think he’s earned the right to play,” Candle said. “He’s a very selfless guy and he has practiced very hard. He’s not the only guy, though. There is Ronnie Jones, Nevone [McCrimmon], and there is Nicholas Sims. That’s a group that I’ve always had a lot of admiration for because there is only one ball and they can be selfish and they never are.”

And his tweet minutes before that last one you quoted was:

"Toledo coach Jason Candle said if season started today starting O-line would look like this:

RT-Brock Ruble
RG-Brandon Heidecker
C-Bryce Harris
LG-Sami Kassem
LT-Mitch Berg

Said Cam Bell is a bit banged up and Atariwa and Cotterman are still coming back off injuries."

RE: Starting QB....Who?
so, in my preseason anxiousness, I found myself re-watching the Arkansas win. A few things I noted. UT had no returning starters on the oline. Storm Norton was the vet with 3 career total starts. The line was anchored by a Florida St grad transfer. Out of the 5 primary receivers and returners in that game 3 are still at UT (Cody Thompson, Jonvea Johnson and Dionte Johnson), Zo Russell and Corey Jones were the other 2 with Keshon Wilcher getting a few snaps. Ely was inconsistent with his accuracy and UT left a lot of points on the board but still won. Jameson Vest was the rookie kicker. Tackling was excellent and physical and red zone pass defense was stingy. UT was the quicker and faster team for the most part on both sides of the ball. Lots of penalties on both teams and UT really benefitted from the refs calling most of the blatantly obvious holds (Arkansas was holding constantly all over the field). Arkansas had 2 TDs called back because downfield blockers held Rockets hustling to make a play.

This year's team is actually pretty experienced in that there should be fewer unproven players and freshman or RS freshmen on the field than to start 2015. I got no idea what to expect out of Guadagni. He had a high school rep as a gamer and competitor. I'm sure his passing must be solid because there's some other big arms in the quarterback group and you can't not get the ball to this group of receivers. Curious how our defensive front 7 will look. Lots of possible rotations there, but I got no idea who is gonna be real good and make plays.

He's not exactly a frosh QB, so I think those staring down receivers... should be trained out. Things are going to be moving very fast in the Miami secondary, quite a challenge. The LSU-Miami game going to be an interesting watch as LSU's QB is the pro-type transfer from OSU.

I'm thinking a lot of RPO.

I was in Youngstown Ohio for the weekend and Sunday on the way home I went through Hudson Ohio. Seems like a nice place. But I kept thinking who is it from Hudson that plays for us? Duh! Well now I remember.
