Too bad, would have loved to have had him. He has future pro written all over IMO. Good luck to him. But on to the next one for Penny and Memphis!

Nothing wrong with that but I think Watford lands here too.

Watford may ultimately sign but he's still going to go through his visits and land in a spot that works for him. Appears he's not there with any school otherwise I'd think he'd sign early.
It's ok for this 2019 class given this rare period of high level local talent but the Memphis area doesn't and has never had enough good players year in and year out to sustain a high level program. If Penny's ultimate goal is to put himself in a position of winning a national championship and run a national program they have to get top players nationally. Calipari proved that is the only way for the school, especially in these days and times.

No reason to think he will not recruit well nationally. Last year's class included kids from Nebraska, Texas and Orlando...

None of last year's kids were top 100 players. If you look through our recruiting his as far back as our 2004 class there has been very few outside of the top 100 (247 composite) who turned into major contributors or high level players for us.

No, but Jones was the highest rated recruit in our class and it was the #1 AAC class. Penny is going to be fine recruiting nationally, it makes perfect sense though that he will get the cream of the crop locally and there is no reason to take those kids, especially with the local talent currently available.

We are limited on how many we can except. I think we have 5 schollys available at the moment with 3 already taken. That leaves 2. We may end up with another scholly or 2, but for now we only have 2 left.
If you have a chance to get a top 50 player to commit you take it and let the scholarship numbers figure themselves out later.
This. We get so wrapped up trying to count schollies. The staff can figure these things out. They are going after some top 50 guards. So I'm betting they feel we need one and can make a scholly available for one.

First, he put that class together in about a month. It included national as well as local guys. And he got the right needs for us and some of the best guys available. No need to think he can't do more with more time, just because of one miss.
Second, not that it's even relevant to the national recruiting discussion, but we've had plenty outside the top 100 guys. Chris Crawford, Joey Dorsey, DJ Stephens, Antonio Barton, Jeremiah Martin to name a few.
