Something to think about (in a couple of years)
Alabama just announced major renovations to their football and basketball venues. While I doubt there will be any real affect on the location of their home football games, the same may not be true for basketball. The arena is scheduled to undergo major renovation following the 2021 season. So, where would the play the 2022 season if the contruction is not complete? There's only about 6 months between the end of basketball season and the start of the next and the renovation will supposedly involve a complete gut and rebuild of the lower section and the construction of luxury suites. Sounds like more than 6 months to me. If I recall correctly the BJCC is scheduled to be complete in 2022. So will Alabama "take over" downtown Birmingham in 2022 for their basketball games. Just a thought. Another thought: might Alabama plant the knife a little deeper by playing the first game in the downtown stadium? I know, I know...but some conspiracy theories are actually true. In this instance convenience may move this forward... JUST SOMETHING TO MAKE YOU GO HMMMMM...

Of course, I could be crazy and totally off base!

If Bama must play basketball away from Coleman, what are their alternative sites? They have their old site recently renovated for WBB, they can play in Montgomery, Huntsville, B'ham or Mobile. Are there other alternative sites?

The necessary pay back to ticket holders (premium+ ticket price) on about 70,000 orders probably guarantees they will play FB at B-D stadium.

I think the WBB arena only seats about 5K, maybe less. They average much more than that for SEC games and, based on their current team, recuiting success, and conference makeup, their team will probably be ranked and in a pretty good conference. "Home" court could mean a lot...

-- When will work begin? Byrne said the best-case scenario is after the 2021-22 season.

-- Will the basketball teams be displaced for a season by the work? Byrne said he isn't totally sure but hopes to do something like Florida did last year with its basketball arena reconstruction. It began immediately after the previous season ended and early-season games for the following season were played on the road to allowed the project to complete.

FWIW, I still wouldn't rule our Alabama playing games at the renovated Legacy Arena...

Who cares. They won't be playing in Bartow Arena. I don't care if they play in the middle of Malfunction Junction

No, UAB's lease with the BJCC gives UAB absolute scheduling priority. And while the Board of Trustees are petty and would rather UAB didn't exist, the people in the UA athletic department couldn't care less about that kind of BS. I promise you've put more thought into it than anyone with a ua.edu email address has

Could be, could be.

I remember when this place was only for UAB related items. It'd be cool to have a place like that again

With all the money UAT has to hide, I'm surprised they don't have big plans for a new 20000 seat arena.

Just to be contrary...

...significant because at a time when UAB is trying to be more of a presence in the BHam area a past negator of said efforts could arise again
...meaning if UAB has a game on that date.
And while those folks may be petty they do care about money, They could play at the women's arena on campus and lose money (especially after playing a non-con 6 figures to play at Bama) or play in Bham and give the local Gumps a "treat" and make money (or even have a massive payday vs Auburn at the BJCC charging premium prices for tickets w/TV coverage)

...At this point anything related to BHam and particularly the BJCC and new stadium are UAB-related
