At least one of the above items provides a tangible social service (and I'm not talking about the parade). I'm reminded of the 1st month of Trumps presidency when he gutted some great programs this could've funded. And I'm reminded of conservative poster complaints on Obama travel expenses.

One of my favorite parts of conservative platforms was fiscal conservatism with spending. When did that talking point get so thrown away? It has pushed me even further left. If NEITHER side cares about superfluous money spending then I'll choose the one with social values I mess with.

Because Eigen is right. This is the kind of stuff countries we do not celebrate do. A rare exception I can think of is France and the Queens guard of the UK (but this sort of tourism flare actually makes the UK money). Does the French parade also cost this exhorbinant amount of money?
