That was John Young. He was born in Orlando; has a major road named after him. IMO, he was the most decorated and accomplished American Astronaut of all time:

Flew on Gemini 3 and 10
Flew on Apollo 10 and 16, walked on the Moon (He went to the moon TWICE. Once flying as a dress rehearsal on 10 and walking on it in 16)
Flow on the first and ninth Space Shuttle missions.

Not many can top that....

EDIT: Oh, and don't let ANYONE tell you they filmed this in a studio. The flag that appeared to be flying in the wind ? Nope. It was a rigid flag that when they stuck it in the ground it shimmied back and forth.

I want to slap people that say we never went to the Moon.

However, I for one am royally pissed that we haven't been back since 1972. You can thank LBJ for that.

His daddy felt the same way so did Obama. As for America will only be great when everyone is fully engaged, that will never happen, and it's never happed in any country in history.

We used to call John Young Cowboy because when he exited his T-38 he was wearing cowboy boots and walked like he had just gotten off his horse. He was a fine man and very down to earth unlike Shepard who was a snob. The Transient Terminal personnel all got an autographed picture of him. After every flight we would get a shoulder patch of the mission. I owned more than 60 shoulder patches from Gemini to Apollo and after.

I think I'll give them to one of my grandkids that shows interest. Oh, I also have more than 100 8X10 photos of many missions. A pin, patch, and baseball cap from Teacher In Space mission where Judy Resnick and crew got killed.
