Yep. Now Carey should seriously concentrate on finding some good QBs.

Thanks a lot Dog Fan, I just laughed so hard my cup of coffee is streaming out my nostrils. Carey and good QBs is a good one.

For once, I'd like to see an excellent passer in the huddle. When was the last time NIU had a Toledo-type passing QB? I know, I know...it does not fit our system. This is not what Carey shoots for. Our system as it is now calls for a dual threat, and Carey seems to concentrate on the running vs. passing ability (as long as the passing is serviceable). Carey seems to be striking out on what we need. When there was good potential, such as Maddie or Santa, well...you saw what happened. The Graham experiment certainly did not work out, and as for Childers, well the jury is still out. We shall see what happens this year.

I recall thinking anything under 4.5 was really good. But i know the way they measure and report has changed since I first got exposed to these #s, back in the day, which for me was the 70s and 80s.

4.8 is pretty darn slow. That wouldn't even be very good for a TE. IMO, anything above a 4.6 for a wr starts to get iffy unless they're a large body who can win jump balls.

we have gotten a little spoiled with 40xs. 4.5 and even 4.6 are still fast players. But a lot of players have started training specifically for the 40 and have shaved a tenth or so off their times by learning how to start out of a sprinters stance. Thats not really football speed. I think thats why some guys don't play as fast as their 40s suggest. But either way, 4.8 is pretty bad for a wr.

40s by position how I see them
wr 4.40-4.55
rb 4.45-4.60
te 4.60-4.75
qb who cares

4.5s is good speed
4.4s is very fast
4.3s is elite speed

The only way you get timed at a 4.8 as a Receiver in a 40 is if your start was poor. I don’t believe he runs a 4.8. He may have ran one by mistake though.

That is not how it works at this event (I have been to it more than once). You get atleast 2 attempts at it. To his defense, he did this towards the end of his Sophomore year. I am sure he has gotten faster and can run a 4.6 or 4.7.

People do not realize how difficult it is to run a sub 4.50 40. There are probably only 20 or fewer Highs School kids that can do this in the country. If you do not believe me watch the NFL Combine. There will not be more than 25 or 30 times under 4.50 and that is at the College level of elites.

Not to mention how they are timed in HS and what surface they’re running on.
2018 NFLcombine 40s #s

30 - 4.49 or lower(8 went sub 4.4)
28 - 4.50-4.54
Interesting I randomly found a guy who ran there who did a 4.34 40. Looked him up and he had set Best Boys 100 meters world record at 10.15. Anthony Schwartz is his name BTW no one in #### is Cooney a 4.8 guy, that number is meaningless. We has Da'ron Brown from Morgan Park and his HS # was 4.80 but for the pros he ran either a 4.45 or a 4.54.
