”One of the things we saw consistently when talking to schools that tried beer sales, is that it began changing fan behavior,” Miner said. “We heard a lot of feedback that fans don’t feel the pressure to drink and preload before entering the stadium. There’s no longer that pressure to chug a few beers while tailgating because you know you can’t drink anymore once you’re inside the stadium.”
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016...beer-sales

Never considered this- then I thought about what the last 30 minutes are like when we start breaking things down are like. The guzzling does accelerate and those late tailgate arrivals feel like they have to catch up. It would be nice to know that there is a cold one waiting for me inside, even if it costs $8.

Of course there will be isolated incidents and the older, more sedate crowd will complain but the bottom line is the sustained growth and financial health supporting the program. I firmly believe that beer sales during games (up until the start of the 4th quarter) will lower the average age of the crowd (not to mention raise the decibel level).

Then again--all it will take is for some idiot to hurl a cup or can down towards the field for the whole thing to unravel.

RE: Football Season Tickets
Got some mail from ODU football today. Figured it would be the tickets but it was a lapel pin of the new 10 year logo. It's nice.

Phase II will make us feel big time and make people want to buy into the program more. Foreman field has been holding us back.

I am hugely worried about ticket sale. playing in a half empty 21k seat stadium is a horrible image for recruits. We are very likely to see that this year with exception of 1 game. We will NEVER get to phase 2 with our current level of season ticket sales because after this year there will be another +2k season tickets open.

Seems someone else suggested you might be another poster using a burn account. Are you a Russian operative? Gotta be the most negative, anxiety ridden poster I've ever heard.

LMAO. I don't know him personally (and I'm ok with that) but some stories were shared with me when he and I started butting heads. This is not some internet persona of his- this is exactly how he is in real life (allegedly).

Who wants to bet we play in a 1/3 to 1/2 empty stadium this year with exception of perhaps the 1st game and the VT game ? Ticket sales just like the "Sell Out Streak" are very misleading. BUTTS in seats at kick off is what matters.

What’s misleading about ticket sales?

I would bet but there would be no way of proving. Even last year some people tried to claim the stadium was half full when it wasnt.

RE: Football Season Tickets
As I understand it for years many fans complained about dark colors for early season games. Light colors makes sense to me when it is 90+ and still sunny at kickoff but that is probably because I am old. ODU responded by going with light colors (white) for the next several years for the games when it was hot enough to melt you into a puddle. Then last year for one of the early games (I really don't remember which one) they tried to stripe the stadium and it was judged a total disaster by the ODU folks. The fans who were supposed to wear dark simply did not do it. So this year back to white for VT.

Agreed - take any advantage we can get. A 3:30 game in mid-September has the potential to be an absolute scorcher. Not a good idea to wear navy blue helemets during the hottest time of the day.
