RE: Football Season Tickets
How much does it cost for the north end zone to be included in the first phase? Honest question since that number is ever changing with a lot of factors influencing it. Is it safe to assume it will be around 20 MM because we are spending 55MM for two larger sides and this being the smaller side and of course we have to factor in bridging this with the east and west stands. Can some one win the lottery already and get that money over to Woody.

Phase II will make us feel big time and make people want to buy into the program more. Foreman field has been holding us back.

I am hugely worried about ticket sale. playing in a half empty 21k seat stadium is a horrible image for recruits. We are very likely to see that this year with exception of 1 game. We will NEVER get to phase 2 with our current level of season ticket sales because after this year there will be another +2k season tickets open.

You clearly do not attend games. The stadium has never been "half empty"

Ya, how are we likely to see that with home games with VT, ECU, Marshall, MT at home? Even VMI will probably draw well. I could see a claim for FIU and NT due to casual fans familiarity. But by the time we play NT that game could be very meaningful if we are in the mix.

It definitely has been half empty or worse in the second half of several games. Especially in rainy games. Not unexpected, but it does happen.

The new stadium will give us a boost I imagine, winning would do wonders.

Why even post this? We all know MrBB was talking about attendance at kickoff.

Wondering how you all feel about selling beer in the stadium if one of the benefits means getting all the folks in the South end zone terrace into their seats and vested in what is happening on the field.

I'm not judging them- I race in there every game at halftime to knock down one or two.

There must be, what, 1000 people in there?

I think they just need to do the same thing they do at the TED. Kill the kegs 15 min prior to kickoff. People can still have access to have nice bathrooms or a shorter concession stand line. But if you stop the sale, then there will not be 1k people there during the game anymore.

Open it back up at 0:00 of the 2nd quarter. Do the same thing at halftime except make it 5 min prior to the start of the 3rd quarter.

Or even better, as you suggested, make it so you can buy booze during the game. Everyone wins that way, except for the perfect family environment ODU strives for.

I would be all for beer sales in the stadium. I think it would make some fans enjoy the game more, bring out more casual fans, and I think it could bring in a ton of revenue if ODU could negotiate the contract properly. I do think there should continue to be a pretty good sized "family section" for those who don't want to be around that though. Also, keep the beer priced high in the regular section to discourage over drinking (and raise more money), but let the drinks in the donor sections be free or cheaper and higher quality to encourage people to continue to donate.

Exactly. 2nd half in a rain game where we are either crushing or being crushed is not an indicator.

Tickets sold is all that matters and we are selling tickets just fine.

Count me in as another proponent of beer sales in the stadium. I like your stipulations too...

I hear what you are saying except the difference from basketball to football is the 4 hours in the parking lot getting all, ahem...."game ready". I can say many in my tailgate spot want to either keep partying or go somewhere else. Shutting off sales until halftime- while sitting in the sun for about 2 hours is a literal buzzkill.

The other unspoken complaint is the aging profile of our fans. Seems all the young folks hang out in the terrace where the booze is. Seems to me that beer sales in the stadium will draw the younger fans back into their seats.

Family section is a must.

I see them selling beer at baseball and soccer games. Why not football?

Maybe because thousands don't tailgate (and drink) before soccer and baseball? Maybe because fights in Foreman Field stands, given the already harrowing step-no railings-ridiculously confined seating would be infinitely more dangerous (to innocent bystanders) than at baseball and soccer? Maybe not enough cops to patrol FF?

Haha I think you are really underestimating the ODU fan and also failing to compare them to every other school/nfl fans.

Yes stuff like that does happen but its a very very small percentage. It also happens with people that have not had a sip to drink. That small percentage doesnt stop other schools and pro teams from selling beer at the stadium.

Your acting like we all turn into crazy people if we had one sip of beer in the stadium.

WVU actually started seeing better fan behavior after they started selling booze in the stadium;

Wow. WVU fans are pure trash well not all of them but the ones who are, are for real. Looks like Big XII has one more gem in Iowa St. 03-puke

Jack Miner, Ohio State's director of operations, said this;

”One of the things we saw consistently when talking to schools that tried beer sales, is that it began changing fan behavior,” Miner said. “We heard a lot of feedback that fans don’t feel the pressure to drink and preload before entering the stadium. There’s no longer that pressure to chug a few beers while tailgating because you know you can’t drink anymore once you’re inside the stadium.”

Someone asked why ODU wouldn't sell beer and booze. I offered an opinion as to why. I'd love to have a couple of beers during the game, not saying anything about people getting crazy after one sip.
Anyway, there's this:
