RE: Legend Field Improvements
They still want to have some events at Legion Field. There are some events that are better-suited for LF. I'm sure it will be cheaper to use/rent than the new stadium, too. Also, there's still a couple of years before the new stadium is ready.

Turf was needed, especially since we've got 3 or 4 more years there.

Ok ok, fixed it. Didn't want this to turn into a legendary derail.

I'm wondering the same thing. This only passed the council like a week ago and it sounds like there a good bit of upgrades. Pretty tight time frame with our kickoff two weeks away.

Metal detectors....great. Thanks to this worthless piece of equipment we get to stand in line even longer to get in, all while the city gets to pretend we're safer.

RE: Legion Field Improvements
Keep in mind that Legion Field is the only large football facility - present or future - owned and operated by the city. UAB will be playing there for the next half decade at least.

Also a fact, B'ham tried to replace Legion Field TWENTY YEARS ago (MAPS), but was thwarted by a deceitful campaign (RAPS) leading to defeat at the polls. Building costs inflation since that time means that the new BJCC stadium will wind up costing almost as much as the 1998 price tag of the proposed MPF - aka "The Dome" - especially augmented when you add in the lost potential convention business revenue over that time frame. It also put the "Uptown Entertainment District" on a much more modest building track.

Metal detectors? Oh great, does this mean every damn attendee will have to take off their belt, empty their pockets/purses?

They were already stupid and inefficient with security searches, now it will be even more of a CF.

Security checks are a part of attendance of every major sporting event. Look at it this way. We are now considered a major sporting event.

But carry on.

So I went to an event a few weeks ago at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and had to make several passes through the metal detector.

I forgot my shoes had steel toes.

It will be open by 2021... so 3 years at most at Legion Field.
