Is wrestling that popular?

The "Von Erich" brothers --there was 6 of them, and 3 died of suicide-- and their family used to be a HUGE deal in the DFW area back in the 1980's. The family patriarch and former SMU football player Jack Adkisson, invented the character "Fritz Von Erich, the Nazi villian", and literally become famous with it and got his sons involved. This is apparently the next generation of sons. 3rd gen.

You don’t have to like pro wrestling to understand the deep roots to that area, and there’s never anything wrong with celebrating what makes you different.

Yep. Lot of ties with wrestling and UNT. I wonder how many of those folks will arrive late in the game if they come just for the wrestling. Either way, it hopefully be a long, fun evening at Apogee.

Time to pray for no rain. If we put on the knee pads maybe we can get temperatures at 90 degrees instead of 100.

I know they did a 30 for 30 on Ric Flair but one on the Von Erich family would be really good also. The backstory on Fritz starting his wrestling league and the sons that died from suicide and drug overdoses. Tragic yes but it would make for a really interesting documentary.

There are several documentary's out there on the Von Erich's. Here's one form ESPN Films.

Denton Record Chronicle article about the match after the game. Legends Kevin Von Erich, "Hacksaw" Jim Dugan, Bill Mercer, and Jim Ross are all scheduled to be there.
