He's one of the all time best.
As long as he is competitive then all the more power to him.

I'd say it's clear that coaches are using his age against him in recruiting. Having a contract that rolled over on an annual basis didn't scream "I'll be here for your entire career" to potential recruits.
They've probably been using this tactic for several years, but at 79 it probably works better now.

Here's the thing.
I understand that a person can love doing a job so much that they don't want to leave.
BUT
My God man, you're 78. Don't you want to spend at least a few years retired and enjoying time with your family? If I make it to 78, the only thing I want to be doing is nothing. Maybe take up golf. Maybe travel. Who knows, but I sure as heck don't want the rigmarole of being a head coach for a P5 team.
As for K-State, while I appreciate loyalty, don't you have to look toward the long term well being of your program? I mean, let's face it, when a person hits 80, the chances of your health deteriorating goes up quite a bit and to be blunt, your program isn't exactly OU or TX that can just line up top of the line coaches.
But that's just me.

We have seen a number of cases where coaches stayed on well into their 70's and even beyond. How many times has that worked out well for the school, and how many times has it worked out badly? And how many times has it worked out well for a school when the head coach is grooming his son(s) to take over when he finally does retire?
Bill Snyder is probably the best thing that's ever happened for K-State. Does he have it in him to do one more good thing for their future?

Seriously, my respect level for Frank Beamer went WAY up after the way he handled his own retirement.

He tried that for 3 years. He has already retired once and came back. I guess he decided he got all the family time he wanted.

RE: Bill Snyder signs 5 year extension
I think the issue is that Snyder wants his son to be the next K-State head coach, and those in charge don't want that, but they also don't want Snyder getting angry when they appoint a new head coach. So they'll just keep putting it off and Snyder will remain the head coach indefinitely.

Snyder's son should go get head coaching experience elsewhere to prove his capability and in roads for additional recruiting territory. Look at what Nebraska is doing with Scott Frost as a comparison, though not perfect.

He's never been a great recruiter. He just does a great job with what he has. And he does a lot of JC recruiting.

Agreed. Frost left Nebraska and coached elsewhere for more than 10 years, including his 2 years as UCF head coach, before returning to Nebraska. He also played 6 years in the NFL after playing at Nebraska. He's worked in many different systems and absorbed ideas from a lot of different coaches.

You ever been to Manhattan? It's half a miracle he can get enough players to voluntarily go there to field a team.

He built the program on Kansas JUCOs originally and baby soft non-conference scheduling.
It didn't hurt the in-state rival Kansas has a bogus program to help branding K-State as a football school.
