Looks like his team went 25-11 (8-4 in district) last year.

Hearing that Jordan K. got job at Blinn and Coach Pope is working outside of baseball. Both great guys. Wishing them both well.

Sounds like a quality hire, and a much-needed local with strong ties to Houston area high school players.

Is he to be paid? Why the "volunteer" tag?

NCAA only allows two Assistant baseball coaches on the payroll. One "volunteer" assistant is allowed per program, with compensation coming from baseball camps and the likes. Rare to get a 9-year head high school coach agreeing to come on as a volunteer coach.

As was discussed a month or so ago, you’re only allowed two assistants in college baseball so most schools have a volunteer paid through camps, private lessons, etc.

Especially next year, when the NCAA rule changes allow a third Assistant Coach. I believe current rules preclude volunteer coaches from recruiting off-campus.

Agree.

Recruiting as well as his teams have performed pretty well consistently. Which is also beneficial for program building.

Interesting to see that he played for Coach Pierce in high school at Pasadena Dobie, probably safe to assume that Pierce put in a good word for him with Bragga and Joe K.

He played for and then later assisted Rayner Noble at the University of Houston, so this is not his first time in the College game.

The Rice Baseball tradition of hiring Coogs continues.

(Graham, Noble, Pierce, Couch, now Scalise)
