RE: Volleyball 2020
I wonder if Coach Chao consulted with Bobby about starting a program from scratch. Having another coach in-house who did the same with immediate results is a great asset to have

I would not be surprised. I think from what I see from these 2 recruits he is certainly looking to develop D1 level talent. They have the raw understanding and size and will greatly benefit from D1 level strength and conditioning. That is a philosophy that BW took from Day 1. I suspect the next recruit we will see is either a setter or another big.

Looks like she previously committed to a D-II school in Hawaii. Wonder what happened?

Let's not forget many players for 2019 had already committed. I suspect he is finding the best players that will fit his system and can develop given the extra year before we have to field a team for play.

They lost 4-1, but all sets were pretty close. I was impressed in watching our team, which is quite young/inexperienced.

Also we have only 2 bench player and Hampton had like like 10. We were pretty competitive for playing all freshman and only 2 backups. We just got gassed at the end.

Most D1 volleyball programs play maybe 3 people off the bench. This program is going to be bad for a few years, unless he gets quality D1 transfers who want to play and can play at this level.
This team would struggle to be competitive against the top D2 programs

I feel that this is a bit premature to state that the state of the program will be "bad" for awhile. I do agree that a challenge will be on how do they deal with older/more experienced teams. Yes, getting qualities tranfers will definitely expedite the manner. On the flip side of recruiting, I would hope that the coaches could get close on some quality freshmen with the aspect of being able to play right away and for 4 years.

I'm in volleyball circles, due to my daughters (travel/select/HS teams). There is a lot of excitement about this program and it will be successful. Jumping right into CUSA will be tough, but we will be competitive sooner than later. I wouldn't read too much into these early scrimmage games.
It takes time for volleyball teams to gel, especially when everything about the experience is new to these ladies - school, geography, coaching, strategy, conditioning, etc. We will get there, but it may take a season or two. In the meantime, they will win some games.
Also, the new Volleyball Arena is out for bid (plans are sitting on my desk). It will be nice and they are already planning on possibly adding seats in the initial phase, which is scheduled to be completed by August 2020.

Currently this team is made up of D2 talent.
I stand by my statement that they will be bad for a few years.

RE: Volleyball 2020
This is a huge recruiting year for VB. We should have several graduate transfers from P5 level programs that should help.
