muh roads

A capitalist system with some socialist policies =/= socialism

Also, that program is going bankrupt. And the health system that you want to "give" to everyone "for free", yeah, that's going bankrupt too.

Let him go with it. He doesn't even realize he is helping to make OP's point.

Yep, if Washington didn’t borrow from the Socual Security Trust fund it wouldn’t be going broke. Keep cutting taxes and supporting trillion dollar deficits.

Social security =/= socialism.
Socialism = robbing from Peter to pay Paul (and buy Paul's vote in the process).
Social security = robbing from Peter to pay Peter back later (maybe).

So desperate for a message to own the drumpf that we are witnessing them beginning to embrace a system that always ends in starvation and genocide in real time.

No argument here. Both gangs are guilty of stealing from SS and neither are smart enough to set the system up for better ROI. Despite it being the largest ponzi scheme ever invented Id have no problem with it if it was run properly. As it stands now? It is a fcking joke.

I honestly hope SS goes broke. Then Congress will have to address spending to keep it afloat. No way in hell is SS going to be allowed to fold...No way.

What’s Trumps excuse?

If 2008 was the reason for Obama's trillion dollar deficits, why did they continue after the economy had supposedly recovered? Easy, because 2008 wasn't the reason. Never let a crisis go to waste.

I'm as disappointed as you are that Trump hasn't shrink the deficit (assuming you are truly disappointed and not just trying to score cheap political tricks). But the bottom line is that Obama blew up expenditures, using 2008 as an excuse, but the stuff he put in place is there sort of permanently now, and it's going to take a while to get it under control.

As far as blaming the "Trump tax cuts," I think the numbers are:

Obama legacy deficit = $850 billion
Trump tax cuts = $150 billion
Total deficit = $1 trillion

Actually, the effect of the Trump tax cuts keeps being described as "$1.5 trillion," which is a 10-year number. So, looking at the 10-year numbers:

Obama legacy deficit = $8.5 trillion
Trump tax cuts = $1.5 trillion
Total deficit = $10 trillion

So whose fault is 85% of that?

Verbal sleight of hand. Social security was sold as employment insurance. What it really was and is is a Ponzi Scheme to fund the government. Trouble is the American electorate stopped having linear pyramid style population expansion after the Boomers. This is why SS is now bankrupt, in addition to politicians from both sides spending the money on other things.

And yes, given the full light of the horror show that is SS most Americans do hate it. Glad you've come around on this Mach. You must have been reading some Hazlitt or Hayek.

There's a difference.

People and employers PAY into social security. They take money out of my check every week "in exchange" that when I retire I'll get money back plus health coverage. If I don't pay into the system, I don't get that check.

Socialism gives free stuff to any sack of crap who happens to have a pulse "just because". Nothing worked for, nothing EARNED.

The electorate also forgot that SS was never designed to be one's sole means of retirement. It was meant to supplement retirement.

People somehow got the impression that they should be able to live off SS, no need to save, let government take care of you, which is where the trouble began.

RE: Socialism, it ages poorly
The fall of oil prices and the socialist rule of President Nicolás Maduro has triggered a rapid and growing exodus of Venezuelans. Venezuelans are leaving for various reasons including lack of food, medicine, and access to essential social services, as well as loss of income and insecurity and violence. As the flow continues, regional host countries are facing both increasing difficulties meeting the needs of migrants and domestic pressure to limit Venezuelan immigration.

Conservative estimates show approximately 1.5 million Venezuelans have left the country since 2014. Regional host countries include Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. To the north, Costa Rica, Mexico, and the United States have experienced an increase in Venezuelan asylum requests.
