I picked Marshall for three reasons. Defense and their OC can't be any worse than their old one, I cant say that for FAU....plus they play FAU @Marshall

The major unknown for me on Marshall....they had to replace the best OL coach in CUSA.

FAU's defense this year is better than last year's at the very least because 10 starters return. But, yes, OC is an open question.

I just wish our head coach was offensive minded.

We also have Morrell. He is playing well in practice and he has several FBS starts against teams like Louisville and others while Chase was "concussed." He was never allowed to open up, either, under Legg and is capable of making big plays. So we have a healing but fragile FCS starter, an unknown true dual threat athlete with pretty good accuracy, and an experienced backup with several starts.

While I'd have less confidence if it was Doc and Bill Legg picking one of the three to be the guy, I'm giving Cramsey the benefit of the doubt on knowing who will best fit his offensive scheme and much more confident that changes will be made as soon as it becomes apparent that the chosen one isn't living up to expectations.

If our run blocking is better and our schemes are better, we have the talent at skill positions to take a lot of pressure off our QB, whomever it will be, till they are ready to step up.

(08-13-2018 10:06 AM)forphase1 Wrote:  It's a good question. It's going to be tough, proven QB or not. Some solid teams in the east. That being said I think we've got a good, talented team around whoever is the QB. If we can get above average QB play, I think we can challenge for the East, yes. But it all will come down to QB play. 10-2, 9-3 is not outside the realm of possibility....but then again neither is 5-7, 6-6 if things fall apart. I don't like our head coach very much, I think he plays a WAY too conservative style of football and make some head scratching game decisions. This season will show us if some of those issues were our long time OC that we finally let go, or if it was the head coach. Early practice reports seem promising, but early practice reports almost ALWAYS seem promising. :-) I'm concerned about QB play....looks like it will be either a RS freshman with no college experience (Green) or a transfer that has been very hyped, but may not be at full health (Thomson). I was hoping to see Thomson come in and dominate, but with the injuries....it hasn't happened yet. The times he was on the field he did look really, really good. But he's been held out of the last few practices and rumors are circulating as to why. Regardless he needs those reps as a transfer and he isn't getting them. Looking forward to the season starting...it COULD be a season to remember...or a season to forget.
Dude, you don't like Doc? who wins bowls, at least won a champ game and division twice? I don't get some of the haters in the herd community sometimes, got spoiled in the late 90s and it never wore off. Sometimes its easy to forget how frustrating things were under snyder. Doc is old school, and that is how he coaches, quite frankly i love it, its not flashy but if you recruit like you can, like he does, he way works. Whats the scoreboard say...

We are lucky to still have him as HC and I hope he stays around a bit longer.

Some can't get past sucking Bobby Pruett ever chance they get. You know the coach that tried to run like Donnie Jones did, waaaay before Jones. You know the coach that slipped off to Houston without the athletic dpt knowing, actually accepted the Houston job, having an ESPN reporter report he accepted the job while Pruett was on the plane to slip back in to WV to get his wife and then when he got caught with his pants down at Yeager Airport in Charleston, denied everything.

This is the same coach that in his last 3 recruiting classes out of 78 recruits only 23 made it to campus and 18 made it on the field and only 8 ever made it all 4 years at Marshall. And some still wonder why Marshall struggled hard under Snyder. Snyder may have not been the best person for the job at the time but given what he had to work with and the new sactions, no one was gonna win then.

I believe we can definitely win the east. The defense should keep us in every game, which is where it all starts. We will be deeper and more experienced at all three levels on that side of the ball with nearly all the two deep back plus adding some new pieces.

On offense, I like us better than I did last year. I believe we upgraded at OC and that we will be bringing back a faster tempo, which we can afford to do because of the defensive depth. Hated losing Mirabel as OL coach, but we,are returning the entire line plus the top backups. Even if the new coach isn't quite as good, I don't see that group regressing. Top 3 running backs all return, all the receivers are back. Yurachek was a very good TE, but was under utilized last year. I like our depth at the position.

Green had a very good spring and really showed out in the spring game and from what I've seen and heard so far in the fall he is playing well in camp. If we run tempo, a quick passing game, and take advantage of our line and running backs (which I believe we will) then the pressure on Green to make plays will be minimal. He throws a very nice deep ball, so he has the ability to keep a defense honest, and has shown no proclivity to turn the ball over. If he gets injured, we're potentially sunk. I don't like Morrel much, throws a lot of picks in practice and tends to get happy feet.

Well in his defense, Chase was his mentor. He learned from the best..er..worst.

I said last year that we would easily compete (even when people were moronically picking Marshall 5th & 6th in East) and that the following year would be even better. Of course I didn’t think Litton would be gone I figured he’d be a Senior QB leading a stacked returning team.

Fast forward to now. The team is still stacked and while our QB situation isn’t complete yet the contenders are more than capeable of leading or even coming along for the ride all the way to the CUSA Championship.
