Sorry to hijack your thread BJ. It’s gone off the rails of the game 1 preview.

I see a lot of the same tired narratives on nearly every thread. Try coming with some FACTS, I know it’s hard to think.
How 'bout this fact: there is NO maize & blue or green & white in a Western Michigan University degree.
Think, son.
Go Broncos!
Thanks Dad. That’s a good one I’ve also never heard on various posts. I guess I should forget about growing up a Michigan fan since I was 8. You didn't go to Michigan, either.
And...you are not 8 anymore.
Support YOUR school and YOUR program, not somebody else's.
You are Western Michigan University graduate.

Retweet. I see way too much of this, people jumping ship to join the MSU or scUM bandwagon because they’re B1G Ten schools. Then when I ask them where they went they say WMU or CMU. What a bunch of sellouts. Don’t pretend to be a diehard fan of a school you didn’t go to plz.

A pretty in depth article talking about many positional battles and first look of some of the youngsters Cuse is developing.
https://www.syracuse.com/expo/sports/err...-4-he.html
We have several threads over at https://www.syracusefan.com discussing the game and what to do in Kalamazoo. We have a simple sign-up..come over and join us. Remember you'll be playing us again in '19.
Nice article, thanks for posting.
I am more concerned about 'Cuse, and Baber's fast 21st Century offense (which WMU couldn't stop when Baber was at BGSU) than I am the Wolverines, with their 1985 offense and questionable QB.
WMU's D has holes and 'Cuse has the system, and speed, to take advantage of them.
We're gonna struggle both games, but I am really worried about 'Cuse and this game being like the Virginia and Virginia Tech home debacles of a generation ago.

I personally am a fan of Notre Dame... Was a fan since childhood and did two years at Holy Cross across the street before transferring to WMU (long story but didn't want to spend another year taking classes at HC for space to clear to get into ND...). Went to WMU, graduated and am a HUGE bronco fan and supporter. If WMU was to play ND in ANY sport I root for WMU hands down... HANDS DOWN! DOWN WITH THE IRISH I SAY! When ND is playing anyone else... I root for their success... Going to WMU was one of the best decisions I made in my lifetime... and brought me friendships and experiences I still cherish to this day... GO BRONCOS! WMU will always be #1 in my book.
Ok... back to original thread topic...
I fear that losing both Phillips and Beal in our secondary is going to hurt... and hurt bad to begin the season. Facing a well travelled accurate QB in week one could be a problem... Phillips and Beal pretty much bottled up the USC passing game last year and this year starting at home will help but I think that Syracuse is going to throw early and often... and with success... Quick strike TD's could really put us on our heals right off the bat and I wouldn't be surprised to be sitting there before half down by quite a bit... After half Dino likely would call off the dogs and just give us a heavy dose of run game to slow down... We climb back to make it respectable but looking back we just dug too big of a hole... Dear goodness I hope I am wrong... but those are two huge pieces to that secondary missing and coupled with a DL that will likely have trouble putting pressure on Dungy... I shudder...
Prove me wrong BRONCOS! PROVE ME WRONG!

RE: Syracuse game review
Our biggest game of the OOC schedule might actually be Georgia State, a Sun Belt team projected to be in the bottom half of their conference.
While hoping we can pull a rabbit out of a hat vs. Syracuse, odds are we'll start the season 0-2 and it wouldn't be the end of the world. Then we'll beat Delaware State (if we don't, it'd be worse than Nicholls).
So GSU would be the difference between entering the MAC schedule either 2-2 or 1-3. If we consider ourselves MAC title contenders, we need to beat a lower-tier FBS team, even on the road. If we lose that one and limp into the conference slate 1-3, it'd be an ominous sign.

Fair prediction, I could see this one being a shootout, high scoring to the likes of 42-35 Syracuse pulls it out. We just lose so much on our defense, losing Beal was like a knife to the heart. Offense will have to carry.

Kinda like last year when we limped in as well. I agree, have to find a way to beat GSU and go 2-2 at worst, 3-1 would be great, but I think 2-2 will be more accurate.

RE: Syracuse game review
We are only a 6 point dog to Syracuse. Not exactly a tossup, but Vegas, which is pretty amazing at setting the spread, has this as a competitive game. Neither team had a great season last year, so I'm not sure whether the odds-makers think we will be more like we were last season, if Syracuse will be , or if both teams will be, but if WMU is appreciably better than we were in 2017 we should win this game. Will we be appreciably better? I'm not sure. We certainly have the capacity to be.
I think this is the perfect opener for us, and we have it at home. If we win that will tell us a lot about the season in front of us. Likewise, a loss may be telling too.

Since someone finally addressed it, I'll fix it.
Kudos for paying attention, coach.

I think we have a shot. Syracuse got blown out in most of their games last year.
While they did destroy Central Michigan and beat #4 Clemson, they did lose to an average Middle Tennessee St team.
What concerns me the most is Dino Babers' offense, an offense that destroyed us when he was with Bowling Green St.

Destroyed is a bit strong. Yes in 2015 they were pretty successful although we kept up with them all game for the most part. In 2014 they were very lackluster and managed 14 points.
I think the jury is out on Babers as a header. He obviously had success at EIU and BGSU with his offensive system but was there only 2 years each and has not stayed long enough anywhere to build a program with his players. I do worry about this as a first game with our young defense though.

Hard to get a good feel for how this game is gonna go. Could end up anywhere between them blowing us out to us blowing them out. Hoping it's somewhere closer to the latter! I like our team and feel like a big rebound is in store this season if we stay healthy.
Ticket sales seem a little sluggish and hope they pick up this coming week. Right now, there's fewer tickets available for Delaware St.

Dungey looks the part, but honestly don't get much opportunity to watch Syracuse football, especially here on the west coast, so have not seen him play. I saw that CBS Sports didn't have him in their Top-60 QBs to watch out for, so he's not getting much respect nationally. But looks like a scary athlete.
