I figured you were one of the announcers last night because they were plugging KSU to the Sun Belt and the KSU-GAST "rivalry" all night.

In all seriousness I can't see KSU getting an invite so long as GSU is in the league. They're just too close in geography but should GSU move somewhere else one day I'll bet they would get a look.

I don't see KSU getting in for the same reason I don't see JSU getting in. Already enough schools in the state right now. If one of us was to move on, then sure, but that's a long way off.

Also, they don't have the $$$ to expand that stadium. Obviously, that can change. But... It was a struggle for them to get the 7k seat stadium they have.

I heard the same arguments about Ga State not having a place to play and being to close to GA Tech. KSU is a great rivalry for Ga State and Ga Southern. I am pretty sure that South Alabama and Troy Alumni would not mind seeing their teams play in ATL every year against either team.

KSU just "knows" they can beat Ga State now.

The pressure will begin immediately from the KSU Alumni. 05-mafia

Truly a great night. The atmosphere was fantastic and the crowd was loud. 23,088 in attendance and I believe it. The home side was packed. Our student section was at 100% capacity all night and screamed their hearts out. KSU also brought a great crowd (not exaggerating when I say 2k+ fans in yellow&black showed up in force) to fill their visitor's side nicely and maybe 1/3 of the far side endzone. Funny how our FCS opener game may have generated the best crowd of the season. Still, the Georgia Southern game might top it if they're having a good season or fighting for bowl eligibility.

I'd expect that place to be jam packed if we're having a good season.

We will definitely bring more fans than KSU.

Already bought parking before there was a big run on it.

I know this is a long shot, but I'm hoping we're both having 8+win seasons so we HAVE to open up the upper level seating for 40k crowd.

Ah yes! Friday meetings! Throw around ideas, get psyched up, then leave for a long weekend to forget. Start over on Monday from zero like it never happened.

Got a few Friday PM meetings today, they are useless.

Quite literally the worst reffing I have ever seen at the FBS level. On KSU's 62 yard reception there was blatant holding right in front of the QB that was missed where the offensive lineman tackled the defensive tackle. It took 5 minutes for the ref's to huddle after each penalty, and they lied about why they reviewed a play in the first half. Complete and utter nonsense.

Yea they totally were reviewing to make sure they knew what was supposed to be on the clock cause they absolutely mishandled that whole situation.

No one knew how many timeouts were left, the announcers were saying people had the incorrect number, the scoreboard people for ESPN weren't updating the highlighted timeouts, the ref's didn't understand any penalty they called and had to huddle to determine the yardage, they didn't know when to stop the clock. Seriously, I hope that the Sun Belt removes them from any further assignments before they screw something up during games that have an impact on conference standings.

The last thing you need is App and Troy playing the last week of the season for a spot in the Championship Game with this crew. (This is hypothetical and in no way saying that's what the East will come down to, just an example)

I meant long as in 48 hour break from work on the weekends. Compared to arriving the next day to implement all the progress made from the previous day's meeting.

The extended Labor Day weekend makes it worse. I agree about the poor management.

A meeting for a Project the day before a 72 hour weekend isn't the brightest idea. "Progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged".

Troy alumni don't want to travel to ATL to play Kennesaw State in their soccer stadium. Any alumni that would be interested in playing KSU every year probably don't follow football very well, much less support the Troy program enough to even have a say.

CBT use a little vision.

The circumstances would be that KSU would build a 30 to 35 thousand seat stadium.

Then Troy would play at Ga State in the odd years in ATL and the next year play KSU in the even years in ATL. Therefore, you always have a game for your ATL-Troy alumni to come cheer on the Trojans.

How many of your Alumni live in the ATL region?

Georgia State needs to plan their offensive around their QB's speed. He has a good ability to throw the ball but locking onto one receiver is going to lose them a few games this year. He worked his way around the pocket well but he needs to learn to move on from route to route before deciding to run. His internal clock wasn't there last night and it almost cost State the game. Would like to see what a QB with that speed could do in App's style of offense.

Coming from JUCO he has to learn what an open receiver is in Div 1 football. After 5 seconds just takeoff.

KSU will go sun belt if state goes to another conference. Same with North Al or jax state if South leaves. It always seemed like the Atlanta metro area always cared more about KSU than State.

(08-31-2018 08:20 AM)eaglewraith Wrote:  I will have to admit I was wrong, Kennesaw did NOT develop plays quickly outside like I was expecting. They appeared to be quite a bit slower than we were even in 2010 when we looked like everything was in slow motion. It appeared that Gast went with a pretty generic 2 high safety look most of the game which is a fairly common look you see against option teams. They were not going to allow anything in the middle and were basically betting on Kennesaw not using the perimeter to beat them (or counting on their team speed to win outside). I was surprised at the amount of success KSU did have on the perimeter though, they just refused to really attack it as much as they should have. They seemed to get too caught up in making something happen up the middle when there was really nothing there all game.

KSU appeared to run a good bit of veer plays on their first drive but then really went away from it until the second half. They had several drives that were unproductive until they just started passing, and with the vanilla look Gast was running, those underneath routes were going to be open.

Ellington appears to be a poor man's Cam Newton. He's got some stout legs....everyone better be tackling him low and taking his legs away or he's going to bounce off and leave you frustrated.

KSU WAS outmatched, but they would have won that game with smarter playcalling. Credit to Gast and especially Ellington for rallying at the end of both halves.

I've been saying this since the preseason last year. I have absolutely no idea why Elliott insists on running the ball. His RBs are not that great and he still doesn't really appear to have an OL for it (at least for now). Gast does have the WRs to run a high tempo passing attack and really leverage defenses both horizontally and downfield. Every running play where you aren't giving the ball to someone like Penny Hart is a wasted down.
I mean what are you going to do? Not run? Throw the ball 70 times? The OL is a problem. Not the RBs. The top 4 are mid to high 3 stars. Question is where is :e OL push. It's troubling and must be fixed.

This team will get better. Another stat that stood out to me is 11 freshman playing last night. Mostly on defense.

The other interesting thing was watching KSU put more players in coverage as the GSU running game evaporated. It eventually opened up lanes for Ellington. But it needs to be fixed today or we will be 1-3 quickly.

At some point I just stopped looking g at the board or listening and started counting downs , watching the spot of the football and working it our from there. New PA announcer was overwhelmed.

Oh please God no. Sunbelt is now in a position for elevation not expansion. No reason no need for it. Our ONLY reason for expansion is a good CUSA member wanting to align with us. And that's not happening.

Kennesaw needs to win championships at their level. They're poised (and good enough) to make a run at it this year.
