Of more concern were some comments by Andrusky about the merger. He basically said the MAC did it to help boost some fairly weak programs in the EWL. Also said the two leagues combined would have earned less bids than they did as separate entities. With the MAC down to 5 base teams adding 7 weaker programs can’t help too much. I have to believe Missouri and Old Dominion are looking elsewhere as Northern Iowa did. Missouri will find it difficult as I’m sure the Big12 won’t take them back and the SEC wouldn’t want them to go to the ACC or Big 10. They might be stuck. Old Dominion though should be able to go to the he ACC.

I hear some alumni saying wrestling should be dropped due to high costs and limited MAC participation. All sounds a little ominous.

I saw Sparkman this summer working at a local oil change place. He was struggling with the workload of both school and wrestling. I hope he is able to get his degree now that he’s no longer wrestling. I believe the merger was orchestrated because Missouri and Old Dominion are leaving in the not so distant future. Missouri simply has too much $$$$ and OD is too far away.

Any idea on where Missouri might go. They seem to be trapped unless the SEC would agree with them going to an SEC rival.

I have no idea where Missouri would go. I was surprised that they left the Big12.

We finished in last today. Rooney took 3rd and McNally finished 2nd, losing to #9 ranked nationally. Rooney’s loss was to #3. Both from Missouri.

I suspect Missouri got told to leave the Big 12 when they decided to leave the Big12 and join the SEC with all their other programs. Personally I hope they leave as no one in the MAC can compete with them anyway.

(11-15-2018 08:23 AM)Lambert58 Wrote:  Class of 2019 is signing NLIs. Here’s who we have:

Earl Blake (Linganore, MD) at 125. He’s a 2x state champ ranked #16 at his weight. He was the NHSCA Junior runner up and a Fargo Junior AA.

James Limongi (Genoa) at 165. He’s a 1x state champ and 2x placer. He’s also ranked #16 at his weight class.

Avry Mutschler (Lowell, MI) at 149. He has finished in the top-four all three years (4th, 3rd, 2nd). He was 8th at Flonationals and 7th at the Junior Folkstyle Nationals. He’s ranked as the 8th best prospect in Michigan's 2019 class. Perhaps we stole one from CMU?

Jacob Sherman (Olentangy) at 125. He placed 4th in 2018.

Chris Langguth (Rootstown) at 184. Placed 6th as a sophomore and 3rd as a junior. He was a NHSCA Freshman AA.

Here’s an update for our recruits’ senior year performances:

Blake won his 3rd Maryland championship. He will be at 125/133 for KSU.
Limongi won his 2nd Ohio title in DIII. He will be at 165 for KSU.
Mutschler won a Michigan title at 140.
Sherman lost his opening match and I didn’t see where he placed.
Langguth finished 4th.
Gould from PA finished 3rd in 2019. He’s a 3x place winner and projects at 133/141. Flowrestling has him ranked at 8th in the country at his weight class. He’s our highest regarded recruit since Ian Miller.
Ryan Neu from Wisconsin will be at 165/174 for us. He is a 4x place winner, including 1st and 3rd.

Rooney lost 12-3 to Buckeye, Luke Pletcher. He will wrestle tonight against North Dakota State in consolations. NDSU wrestler has been ranked in the top 20 so Rooney has another tough match.

McNally lost a not so close match. 9-3 or 10-3. Is it my imagination or do Kent wrestlers find it almost impossible to escape. Not just this year but forever. Also there opponents seem to get out with ease (although I do remember Tyler Small was a good rider so he was an exception).

We heard he’s thinking of transferring but it’s the first time I heard Penn St. He could be a one year stop gap for them I suppose.

Another theory is Edinboro which is near his home in Ashtabula and has a coach he has a close relationship with. That seems to fit his personality more than the big time at Penn St. but who knows.

McNally won 6-0 and Kent St. avoided the shutout.

With his win, McNally gets the #2 seed from Penn State who was upset earlier today. See you next season!

Thanks. I was going to look that up. Now I don’t have to. That one win will give Kent its first Directors Cup points for the year.

Yep. Normally we score 200-300 for the year. Wrestling and gymnastics being a big part of it but we could have been shutout on those two sports if McNally hadn’t won the one match. That half a point he earned probably will translate into 5 Director Cup points.

Finished in a 7 way tie for 56th (oh boy!!) and picked up 15 Director Cup points. All for winning one consolation match and scoring 0.5 points.

I thought his tweet said he was transferring if he won appeal for extra year of eligibility. He’s graduated. KSU has no hold over him.
