ESPN is the one who owns all* the rights. They could hypothetically swap Clemson and Florida State for Kentucky and Vanderbilt (or whoever you want to in the scenario). If ESPN will agree to not lower the payment to the conferences, the SEC and ACC could mix and match to make the best arrangement for what they want. Grant of Rights get waived, everyone's happy and potentially richer.

*With the CBS Game of the Week as the exception.

ESPN doesn't own those media rights forever. The best way to put it is that ESPN is a tenant leasing those properties from the SEC and ACC for a period of time.

That's true but the context I was referring to was how LSU and FSU could play their future series as conference games without breaking the GoR.

It's not that simple. The GoR isn't with ESPN, it's with the other members of the conference - basically, the schools signed a contract giving the conference authority to negotiate TV rights as a group.

Correct. I think that ideas such as these proposed conference "swaps" exist only on message boards. Pretty much a fantasy.

They are unlikely to happen while GOR's exist. Wake me up in 2037.
