Schedule Breakdown: WKU
Today, let's talk WKU. The Toppers saw a reduction in wins last year, and this season, bowl season looks like a shaky proposition. WKU lost a great QB to the NFL and may find it hard to replace him and much of their offense. Sanford seems to be wearing on fans, and a bad season could set him up for a win-or-else third season at Bowling Green.

Which games do you feel they will win, and which should they lose? What is the logic for your predictions?

Here is the schedule with my predictions. C-USA fans, I look forward to reading your thoughts.

L- @ Wisconsin (Wisconsin is a Top 10 programs. It will get ugly.)
W- Maine (Buy-a-win FCS team)
L- @ Louisville (Won't be close)
W- @ Ball State (Bad MAC team)
L- Marshall (Marshall is one of the best teams in C-USA)
W- @ Charlotte (Not as bad as Charlotte)
L- ODU (A statement win for ODU)
L- FIU (Too much talent on FIU)
L- @ MT (Too much Stock on MT)
L- @ FAU (FAU should be ranked)
W- UTEP (Good enough to beat UTEP)
L- @ LA Tech (On the road against a solid western division team)

Joe, I called it exactly the way you did. That said, it would not surprise me to see them pick up another win or two.

RE: Schedule Breakdown: WKU
ODU at home--WKU will win.Our defense will be very solid. Also this game comes after a confidence building win against CHARLOTTE and only two weeks after an open date. That open date will allow for rest/recovery/re-tooling.ODU will be playing their 8th game in a row with no open date;5th road game.WKU will wear them down in the second half and pull away.It might also be their first "cold" game of the year with the second half stretching toward 11 p.m. eastern time October 20th.

RE: Schedule Breakdown: WKU
WIth not much going on in the off season I thought I would post my season predictions and thoughts below. Usually I have been fairly close on these last few years minus last season.....Needless to say I am expecting this season to be a struggle even if OL and running game improves.... I can foresee Sanford making some changes and firing some buddies before next season if this season is a struggle....Either way he will get 3 full seasons unless something off field or this season we go 0-12, So here we go:

2018 Football Schedule

Aug 31 (Fri) / TBD

at Wisconsin -L-45-10-Expect a rough start against a superior opponent. Running game and QB play will struggle and our DL will get manhandled by what is usually one of the best OL's in the country. Hopefully our OL can take notes from Wisconsin on how to block for run game, because Whiskey is very very good at run blocking

Madison, WI

Sep 8 (Sat) / TBD

vs Maine-W-45-21-I admit I don't know much about Maine, but I do know they lost their starting QB and several offensive players from last years team. I think this is game where our state of zero runs over 20 yards ends.

Bowling Green, Ky.

Sep 15 (Sat) / TBD

at Louisville-L-38-13-UofL has new QB Jawon Pass who has a better arm than Lamar but is not as good of a runner....I expect us to come out strong and make it a game in first half. Eventually however we wear down at end and are unable to stop UofL from running the ball, effort is there but we don't have the bodies to keep up on this day.

Louisville, KY

Sep 22 (Sat) / TBD

at Ball State-L-28-27-On paper you would think we could win this game, but last season we struggled at home vs a team that returns a lot of players from last season. Their starting QB is back plus running backs we could not stop back also. We lose on a last second field goal on the road.

Muncie, IN

Sep 29 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

vs Marshall-L-24-21-I think this is a defensive struggle we come up short in. While Marshall lost their starting QB, I actually think that's a good thing for them as Litton imo was not all that. Marshall has a 4 star QB waiting in the wings plus they return a bunch of defensive talent who will stop our passing offense.

Bowling Green, Ky.

Oct 13 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

at Charlotte-L-31-27-I go back and forth on this one as on paper this is a game we should win but who knows? I think Eckles throws 3 int's and this is the game he is benched in favor of true freshmen Thomas to take over. After starting season 1-5, I believe Sanford gets desperate and will throw the true freshmen out there for rest of the season to build for next year after this game.

Charlotte, NC

Oct 20 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

vs Old Dominion-L-35-31-I think Thomas has good showing but our Defensive has lapses to where we drop this game. ODU has been so close beating us over the years, I think this is the year they get us.

Bowling Green, Ky.

Oct 27 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

vs FIU (HC) -L-27-24-FIU dominated us last season at their place, our guys remember that but still cannot get over the hump as our team has lost the ability at this point in the season to close out game, we drop a heartreaker here..

Bowling Green, Ky.

Nov 2 (Fri) / TBD

C-USA

at Middle Tennessee -L-42-28-Blue Smurfs get revenge on us from last few seasons last second losses by smurf. Stockstill goes off in this one and its not close.

Murfreesboro, Tenn.

TV: CBS Sports Network

Nov 10 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

at Florida Atlantic-L-51-17-This is over quickly as Lane puts on a clinic against our inept coaching staff...FAU fans better enjoy Lane because I am sure this is his last season in Boca.

Boca Raton, FL

Nov 17 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

vs UTEP-W-31-24-For just the second time all season we finally win a game! Thomas has good runs and does not make as many mistakes and we escapes with the W.

Bowling Green, Ky.

Nov 24 (Sat) / TBD

C-USA

at Louisiana Tech-L-38-24-We end season a whimper at a place we have never won before. Disappointing end to a dreadful season.

Ruston, LA

TV: CBS Sports Network

We finish year at 2-10. Off season Todd basically tells Sanford Jr he has one more season to right the ship and he has some tough decisions in the off season to fire some of his buddies.

RE: Schedule Breakdown: WKU
L - @Wisconsin - Tough road game against a playoff contender, just don't get hurt
W - Maine - Tune up, Get some confidence and valuable minutes for new players
L - @Louisville - Will be closer than most think, WKU gets worn down at the end
W - @Ball St - Grind-it-out, weird game with a weird score
W - Marshall - The team seems to get everything figured out, offense starts clicking
W - @Charlotte - Will be closer than most think, UNCC gets worn down at the end
W - Old Dominion - Won't be the shootout like in the past, but still close
L - FIU - Disappointing homecoming loss after win streak, shows they haven't turned the corner just yet
W - @MTSU - Western pulls it out after about 37 OTs
L - @FAU - After an emotional win at MTSU, WKU can't handle talented FAU
W - UTEP - Another close one where Western's defense ultimately seals the win
L - @LaTech - The Toppers just can't win there

7-5.

Slight improvement over last year, but still mediocre. Fans will still be grumbling for better after grinding out wins against other mediocre teams.

This all makes sense to me. I would be happy with a win finally, but I'm not expecting one.

I was thinking 7-5 also. Flipping FIU and MTSU. I do not think Louisville will smoke us also. Look for an overall better team than 2016. Now I could come back in December and say what the hell was I thinking and wish I would've hopped on the naysayer bandwagon.

This is what I predicted as soon as the schedule came out.

The wins will be Maine, UTEP and either Charlotte or Ball State. We won’t win both of those. Hell, I could see us losing both and finishing 2-10.

I can’t remember a coach this clueless at Western. And his staff is not much better. I’m not near as sold on the DC as many of our fans are. His bend but don’t break philosophy was more of a bend and break often in reality.

The OC had his job ripped from him by Boy Wonder. His dad is a lifetime loser at the FCS level and I can’t imagine him making any group he works with better.

Add in the fact he has run off so many seniors we’re down to 10 total seniors on the team.

And he’s still popping off at the mouth about how much talent we have now. As if he’s brought it all in.

Youngest O Line in the conference. No proven QB. No proven RB. I could go on and on but it just depresses me.

He is not going to fire Sanford unless we go 0-12....He may have a serious talk with him about firing some assistant coaches and making some changes but he will not fire him...Now if third season still not much progress, he will be canned.....I mean WKU football is not Michigan, lets at least get that straight....

I hear ya, not sure how these other WKU fans are coming up 7 wins, would really like to hear their explanations because I am not seeing it at all....Hell if we win 4 games this season I will consider that a positive step in the right direction...The new OL coach at least gives me some hope, his resume is pretty impressive unlike most others on staff....
