7-5 Houston who lost to Tulsa, Tulane and lost in their bowl game to G5 Fresno to finish the season. Sorry but no 7-5 G5 team should be ranked in preseason top 25

That literally wipes away all revelancy to that poll

Meanwhile, 11-3 Boise State who beat P5 Oregon to finish the season in a bowl game is not ranked.

If Briles does what he did at FAU, Houston could certainly be a Top 25 team. I would not have ranked them Top 25, but I can see the logic.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a coaching change at Houston after this year. I just don't believe Applewhite will win enough this year to satisfy Coog fans. I think Briles will be looked at hard as his replacement.

That’s great but that will only get you #12 by the CFP.

Boise was ranked #3 by the BCS in 2010

is this poll about 2017?? you realize polls are about prognostication

you realize 8-5 Michigan, 7-6 florida state, 7-6 texas, 7-6 west virgina are all projected to be ranked high in all polls aswell???

you realize ucf was 6-6 before they went 13-0? what witch craft did ucf use???

Why are you comparing P5 teams with exponentially tougher schedules? And teams that finished expotentially higher than Houston in the final polls, #26 Michigan, #27 Texas, #28 Florida State meanwhile Houston #61

Name a 7-5 G5 team to ever be ranked in a preaseason poll

UCF wasn’t ranked preseason, they also had around 90th SOS before Auburn game and that factored in the CFP decision to rank a undefeated team not even in the top 10 but at #12.

Yes I know UCF had two of their toughest games cancel due to hurricanes/tropical but it worked at perfect for them to have no losses, but pitifully weak schedule to not even be considered by the CFP as legitimate top 4 but all down to #12

name a g5 with the 1 player in college football (hint the answer is never)

name a g5 with more 4 and 5star than houston this upcoming season (hint the answer is never)..(houston has 14+)
(note: Houston added 8 4star transfer most of which had significant minutes/starters at their old school)

houston was elite on defense last year. and is projected way better...... the offense is stacked on offense talent wise...they didnt produce much last year, but the most think it was scheme...houston hired briles junior who turned fau around in 1 season

Nonsense. I can't find anything that warrants Houston being top 25. Even the AAC coaches have UH picked 2nd in the West this year.

Also, ECU and SMU lead UH in recruiting as of right now.

https://collegefootballnews.com/2018/07/...ery-game/2
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc...751560002/

houston has top 25 votes in the coaches poll, meaning someone voted them top 25

also what does recruiting for the 2019 season have to do with the 2018 season

i would write a long thing about why houston could finish top 25....but bill c (sbnation) already did with stats and computers to back it up
https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...ule-roster

extremely short summary: houston should be scary on defense. offense bad last season, has question marks, but hired offensive genius as OC...if offense improve 11 win season on table (says it on the very last paragraph)..a 11 win season is top 25

(note this was written apr 25, since apr 25, houston has since gotten grad transfer RB (former 4star) who was a 1000yd rusher at baylor, grad transfer who was utahs second leading reciever, a grad transfer CB (former 4star) who started 9 games for ND last season, former #1 safety of recruit of 2016 was given was given eligibility waiver from ole miss for immediate eligibility)

the big question mark in houston is offense....and some believe with briles jr that shouldnt be a problem

Glad to see FAU ranked, finished strong with blow out victories in CUSA and bowl game. That I can see.
But #20 UH (7-5) makes no sense, USM should be ranked too at least ya’ll loss to Florida State in a bowl game not Fresno State like UH

Okay first off. We lost by one touchdown to a 10-4 MWC runner up in Fresno State. 3 of their 4 losses were to ranked teams on the road. They were a legitimately solid football team. At a minimum they could have matched up with any C-USA team so I don't get the hate there.

Secondly, USM got stomped by FSU 42-13. And don't act like that was a world beater FSU team last year. They went 6-6 in the regular season and lost to BC, 35-3. That's about as mediocre as it gets for a program like FSU.

That said, I was also surprised to see that the SI rankings had UH in the mix. Personally after last season I'm just hoping for a nice 9-10 win season and some competent offensive play calling, a top 25 ranking would be gravy.

Sad day for Houston to imply it is okay to lose to MWC runner up, Fresno State.

And USM didn't get stomped by FSU... we got prison raped.

Thats because they put in work the year before finishing 12-1 with an end of the year ranking of #11 and #13 in the AP and Coaches respectively. Thats the reality for non blue bloods. You have to be good usually for two seasons in order to get paid off. One year to get attention and build hype and then a second year to deliver on the hype. UH had it within reach a couple seasons ago but the coach couldn't keep the team focused (Probably because he was too busy interviewing for the job in Austin).

Sorry, didn't realize your reference to recruits was related to all-time. Thought you were referring to your current recruiting class.

I am sure Houston is full of talent. Solid FB program.

Lol, 2 votes. And Major Applewhite is one of the voters and probably one of the other AAC coaches, happens all the time. That carries zero weight when it was more than likely your own coach with the single vote.

Now if UH had 27 votes like FAU yeah you would have a point

Ehh given how the year went it really wasnt the end of the world. We were a little dysfunctional last year, hopefully Applewhite gets it together this year and has us back on top this year.

Not that I really want to get into a debate about UCF (not my program to defend) but don't call that a flash in the pan season. They won the fiesta bowl a couple seasons prior. They're a pain in the ass but a very solid program in a great recruiting area.

UH has a scary and an elite defense but gives up 45 points to a 2-10 Tulsa team.

We also held the #2, #5, #10, #12, and #23 scoring offenses to an average of 15 points under their season average. That Tulsa game was a disaster but even great teams, which we were far from last season, slip up against teams they shouldn't. It happens. It doesn't mean that the team has no talent.

turnovers on offense are a thing..Tulsa scored 7 points the entire first half, and that single touchdown was from a pick that gave Tulsa the ball at the houston 1

Tulsa's second touchdown (in the 3rd quarter) was from a pick that gave them the ball at the houston 6

they scored 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, 1 was from a turnover on downs from Houston trying to stay in the game.. and tulsa's last td was from a fumble return td that had nothing to do with the defense.

and before you bring up giving up 42 to memphis, houston held memphis scoreless the first half (first time memphis had been held scoreless in a half in 5 years)..only for the offense to have 4 second half turnovers (and memphis had kick return td)

you try to pretend to be this logical sensible person, when you really arent.. you are only sensible when it fits your narrative.....
i literally gave you a link that explained everything, one that used stats to back it up but it didnt fit your narrative

bill c said his computer doesnt take into account OC changes, so it projects houstons bad offense even worse next season (which he says is almost impossible with briles)...but his computers still have houston winning 9 games on defense alone

Bringing up the Navy game is weak.
Lane even said the team wasn’t ready for that game.
G moved to center that week QB’s still shuffling huge turnover of players over the summer
Lane took over playcalling a few weeks later.
FAU got better and better every week last year.
We return 10 starters on D have very good depth at WR and we brought in 4 transfers to fight over the C and RG spot.
We were like 110 in passing last year according to the the PP index so if our QB’s are equal to Driskel we will win 11 again.

Not according to Kiffin: "Kiffin insists that Briles called the plays during games all season"

Kendell didn’t call plays after week 4.

denial: i already posted 6 links about this topic when he was first hired at houston and fau fans were saying this..

kiffin numerous numerous times after week 4 said briles ran the offense....

kiffin also said he had no clue how to run the baylor offense that it was completely different than anything he ran, that he had to put faith in briles

Now if UH had 27 votes like FAU yeah you would have a point

Briles was caught on national TV doing this at Baylor and Herbstriet says it was “bush league”
