There are many reasons why OU should put a hurting on us. But the heat should not be one of them. If anything, Florida heat should make FAU players much more accustomed to that.

Perhaps I'm reading you incorrectly, but have you ever been to OK? I have. Lived there for a summer and early fall in the Army. You will have zero advantage. Believe it or not, dry heat takes a bit of acclimation. You all are used to FL heat and humidity (I lived in Plantation and my ex is from Delray). Don't count on that as an advantage

C-USA's P5 OOC Games: Rank'em
(08-04-2018 07:14 PM)ODU Oldtimer Wrote: (08-04-2018 05:51 PM)owl at the moon Wrote: (08-04-2018 12:13 PM)ODU Oldtimer Wrote: [quote='Side Show Joe' pid='15414597' dateline='1533393861']
Here is a list of all the P5 games C-USA programs have scheduled this season. How the conference as a whole preforms in these games will have a direct influence on the overall perception of C-USA. Some look more winnable then others. Rank them from most likely to least likely wins for the conference.
On a side note, we host 4 of the 23 match-ups. If we are ever going to be serious about increasing the value of our media rights, and elevate the perception of C-USA, we have to begin hosting more of these games.
16 Rice@Wake Forest - Wake Forest has been getting better in recent years and Rice is on the down turn NO UPSET to see here.
Im going to quibble with a couple of your choices of words... but 1-to-23 I won’t quibble a bit with your rankings.
Hot take: I agree FAU has a shot vs OU.
Hot take Rice with #16 is probably higher than most will put us on this list. But I agree that’s about right and I do think we have a small outside shot at this one. I don’t think as you say Rice is “on the downturn”, rather I will claim that with Mike Bloomgren in place the Owls are already on the upswing. That said... even though i went way out on a limb to claim we could be 9-4 and make the title game... I still have WF and LSU projected in the L column. THIS year anyway!
If I could have one P5 win by a fellow CUSA member it would be FAU/OU.
If I could have two... it would be FAU/UCF. (Its a very complicated scenario where UCF receives an ACC invite the week before the game and then has it rescinded after the FAU loss...)
My reasoning was the last 3 years have been a downward trend.......This year is the unknown. I think the new Coach will be a positive, but still the unknown for 2018. Good Luck I think you will be heading in the right direction.
Thanks- and you can look at our regular season wins going back 5 years and see a downward linear trend. Good news is the elevator has reached the bottom and even in the very worst case the “rate of descent” will slow this year:
2013: 9 wins (10-4 overall & CUSA champs)
2014: 7 wins (8-5 w/ Hawaii Bowl Win)
2015: 5 wins
2016: 3 wins
2017: 1 win
2018: (linear extrapolation) minus 1 wins??
Anyway, looking back the real downturn was in 2014 and hopefully the real upturn will be this fall.

Certainly. They did last year. As long as the coaching change doesnt hinder them in any way.
Mississippi State will be better than LSU this season. State's offense will be better than LSU's and their defenses are probably going to be at least even. I expect the Dawgs to get a more even performance from the referees in Stark Vegas than in Baton Rouge though.

Matt Ryan has the same number of MVPs, the same number of Super Bowl appearances, better completion rate, better TD/INT ratio, better yards per attempt, better, yards per completion, better yards per game, better career passer rating, better QBR, and since 2011(the time they've both been in the league) Ryan has more TDs, more yards, fewer INTs, more fourth quarter comebacks, more game winning drives and leads the head to head 8-6.
Cam runs from the podium after tough losses, that's what Cam runs.

Florida heat and the heat over in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, etc aren’t comparable Every time I visit FL it feels so much better than up here.

I am going to join in on the chorus of MSU will be better than LSU this year.
Hopefully we can surprise LSU and MSU dismisses them as inferior and then watches tape of last years debacle in Ruston.
I think we were much better than we showed last year. Lets hope we make up for it.

It's pretty close, in their combined stats since 2011 Cam has about 15 more TDs accounted for and Ryan has about 2,000 more yards.
But the edge still has to go to Ryan when you consider the rest of the factors, honestly Cam's 6-8 head to head record closes the gap more than anything else.

I was in Oklahoma three weeks ago when it was 112 degrees and upper 80's and low 90's with Louisiana humidity were way more miserable. The sticky heat we have in the gulf states just takes it to a different level than the rest of the country.

Nah, It's definitely not desert, I have lived over here in DFW and it is consistently hotter than Ruston. Especially at night, Ruston nights are cooler, maybe the heat island effect
More humid yes, but look at weather.com right now. It is 88 with 50% humidity in Ruston feels like 90. In Norman it is 92 with 40% humidity feels like 96.
Very negligible.

I dont THINK this is true when you add in Cam's rushing TDs and yards.
And while I think Cam is a great athlete, and objectively fun to watch(when he's enjoying himself anyhow) if I wanted to point to examples of how Ryan is the better quarterback, I'd point to Ryan's lead in fourth quarter comebacks(18 to 13)and game winning drives(22 to 15) and that's again, just since Cam has been in the league, Ryan had career highs in both categories(5 and 6 respectively) in 2010.
