C-USA's P5 OOC Games: Rank'em
Here is a list of all the P5 games C-USA programs have scheduled this season. How the conference as a whole preforms in these games will have a direct influence on the overall perception of C-USA. Some look more winnable then others. Rank them from most likely to least likely wins for the conference.

On a side note, we host 4 of the 23 match-ups. If we are ever going to be serious about increasing the value of our media rights, and elevate the perception of C-USA, we have to begin hosting more of these games.

Okay, rank all 23 from most winnable to least.

Charlotte@Tennessee
FAU@Oklahoma
Indiana@FIU
FIU@Miami
Marshall@S Carolina
NC State@Marshall
MT@Vandy
MT@Georgia
MT@Kentucky

1 MT@Vandy I would normally Pick MT over Vandy, especially considering Vandy lost a lot from last year. If Stockstill stays heathy this is a W
2 NC State@Marshall Home Field advantage Good NC State team but Marshall could win this one. NCS #47 OS Poll
3 UNT@Arkansas - I think UNT has a chance. This is a down year for Ark #91
4 Indiana@FIU - FIU should have the players to win this but it may come down to the last possession. Indiana #92
5 MT@Kentucky - Terry Wilson, former Oregon Duck transfers in at QB Coin Flip!
6 Baylor@UTSA Could see a upset and UTSA with the W Home team could pull this off. Baylor #93
7 LA Tech@Miss State - Another monster upset if LA Tech could win at Miss State a top 25 team and will be stronger than last year.
8 Marshall@S Carolina - This would be a huge upset if Marshall could pull this off #26
9 FAU@Oklahoma - Oklahoma receiving top 5 polling by everyone this year. If FAU pulls off the upset here, we will see FAU Top 25
10 Virginia Tech@ODU - VA Tech Top 15 team. ODU with the home field. Not as bad as last year. Williams play will determine if we loss by 1 or 4 TD's
11 LA Tech@LSU - some polls have LSU top 10 No UPSET here.
12 UTSA@Kansas St - Kansas St rebuilding this year #44. No upset here.
13 WKU@Louisville Rebuilding as well #66 But WKU will struggle in 2018 -
14 UTEP@Tennessee - Tennessee will suck but will still WIN
15 UTSA@Arizona St - Arizona State #79 OS Poll. Arizona St in a close game.
16 Rice@Wake Forest - Wake Forest has been getting better in recent years and Rice is on the down turn NO UPSET to see here.
17 FIU@Miami Not this year Miami Top 10 team
18 UAB@Texas A&M - A&M wins big in a rebuilding year
19 MT@Georgia - Georgia is predicted to be vey good this year Only the final score to determine Georgia Top 3 in 2018
20 USM@Auburn - Auburn is a Top 10 team. Southern Miss only returns eight starters and faces quarterback uncertainty
21 WKU@Wisconsin - Wisconsin will be just that good NO UPSET here.
22 Charlotte@Tennessee. Tennessee may be bad this year, but charlotte losses big
23 Rice@LSU _ LSU picks their score

I think the TOP 6 potentially could be upsets.
If CUSA wins 4 that would be about right. The conference as a whole is playing some really tough games this year.... 4 -19 - 6- 17 OOC against P5's

Okay here we go. Setting the scale for most winnable at 5 and least winnable at 1.

Oklahoma is a three touchdown favorite, Indiana is a 10.5 point favorite, Vandy is a 6.5 point favorite. I'd say it's not unreasonable to expect the MT@UK and Baylor@UTSA lines to be more in that 7-10 range rather than the neighborhood of 21.

If FAU is indeed as likely to win in Norman as MT is to win in Nashville, or FIU is to beat Indiana at home, the conference race won't be remotely close, either that or OU is winning about seven games.

RE: C-USA's P5 OOC Games: Rank'em
This was no easy task. I made a first cut at it, but didn't like what I had when I got through. Then a true brain fart hit me. I've been tracking Uncle Matt's countdown for two months. Why not use his rankings to establish relative quality of the teams and then use the differential to quantify the probability of a win by the C-USA team. Games listed in red are those where the C-USA team should actually be favored -- according to this dubious system that I have concocted. So Joe -- as favorites, MTSU, UNT and Marshall need to step up and win some games.

From most winnable to least -- here you go.

050. 56 MT@Vandy 106
045. 46 UNT@Arkansas 91
013. 56 MT@Kentucky 69
007. 47 NC State@Marshall 40
010. 93 Baylor@UTSA 103
014. 40 Marshall@S Carolina 26
024. 103 UTSA@Arizona St 79
025. 36 FAU@Oklahoma 11
029. 53 UAB@Texas A&M 24
030. 92. Indiana@FIU 122
032. 98 WKU@Louisville 66
037. 125 Charlotte@Tennessee 88
038. 49 LA Tech@LSU 11
038, 49 LA Tech@Miss State 11
041.129 UTEP@Tennessee 88
045. 56 MT@Georgia 11
075. 11 Virginia Tech@ODU 86
079. 103 UTSA@Kansas St 44
084. 95 USM@Auburn 11
084. 127 Rice@Wake Forest 43
087. 98 WKU@Wisconsin 11
101. FIU 122 @Miami 11 101
116. 127 Rice@LSU 11

Oh, by the way, since the countdown is not complete, I used the mid point of the remaining rankings (11) as the estimated ranking of the for those teams that have yet to be ranked.

EDIT: Thanks for catching my errors, Oldtimer.

Ya'll did realize OU was in the playoff and the one top 4 in the country. Sorry ya"ll are not living in reality if you think OU game is one the most winnable. First game of the year in Oklahoma heat, trick play and fast offense is not going to work. OU by at least 17 probably more like 24. Re-visit this post after the game

OU is going to put the beat down on FAU, they are deep team with big lineman. This is not going to be pretty. Lane knows how to win with less talent but there is only so far it will take you.

Baylor @UTSA, NC State @ Marshall, MT@Kentucky, UTSA @ Arizona State even Marshall @ South Carolina. All very winnable.

I would hope UNT could beat Arkansas but I they're are just not a strong team and overrated by just looking at their record from last year.

That might be the case now that Orgeron is the head coach but under Miles not so much. Miles had an 87% win percentage and avged 8th in the nation his 10+ years in Baton Rouge. I was told by one of LSUs biggest boosters that lives in Lafayette that Miles was fired because of 2 things: 1)He wasn't Nick Sabin (well Duh, Sabin had just left) and 2)He was hired without the blessing of the majority of the big boosters of LSU.

Certainly, Les had them high for a while. But I think they began being overrated in his last few years, he got fired, and now they have O. I also just dont respect the SEC schedule as much lately. I think they are mid-tier in the West, and that just doesnt seem Top 15 material to me. Alabama, Auburn, and MSU are better to me. They’ll play Miami and Georgia this year so we’ll see how they stack up agains the top of the East and a top team in another conference... and against us of course!

Yep. East like always will be tough again. I see FIU and ODU being dark horses but FIU has way more talent so i can comfortably put them together with FAU,Marshall and you guys in a fight for the east. I think OU is being somewhat overhyped and while i understand they are one of the blue bloods and can beat the heck out of anyone if they are at it but FAU is no walk in the park and will give them a fight and with some luck and some good play calling kiffin may get it done after all. I think FIU might surprise Indiana and who knows Stockstills might get that win over the commodores too. Of course these predictions and the talking heads can say what ever they want but the minute players set on the field is when things start happening for real and i might end up being utterly wrong with my rankings who knows but i will cheering every team from the conference in that OOC part because that is where we have a chance to separate ourselves from the rest.

Well OU was one of the 4 best in the country last year and they were the best team in the Big 12, so the over hype is warranted.

MTkkP is right, They are elite P5’s like Alabama, Clemson, and that Oklahoma have the size to on the 2 deep bigger than FAU 1’s.

Then they are teams like Kentucky, Vandy, Indiana that are very winnable games.

There is a reason OU is 21 point favorite

Here is a list of all the P5 games C-USA programs have scheduled this season. How the conference as a whole preforms in these games will have a direct influence on the overall perception of C-USA. Some look more winnable then others. Rank them from most likely to least likely wins for the conference.

On a side note, we host 4 of the 23 match-ups. If we are ever going to be serious about increasing the value of our media rights, and elevate the perception of C-USA, we have to begin hosting more of these games.

Okay, rank all 23 from most winnable to least.

Im going to quibble with a couple of your choices of words... but 1-to-23 I won’t quibble a bit with your rankings.

Hot take: I agree FAU has a shot vs OU.
Hot take Rice with #16 is probably higher than most will put us on this list. But I agree that’s about right and I do think we have a small outside shot at this one. I don’t think as you say Rice is “on the downturn”, rather I will claim that with Mike Bloomgren in place the Owls are already on the upswing. That said... even though i went way out on a limb to claim we could be 9-4 and make the title game... I still have WF and LSU projected in the L column. THIS year anyway!

If I could have one P5 win by a fellow CUSA member it would be FAU/OU.

If I could have two... it would be FAU/UCF. (Its a very complicated scenario where UCF receives an ACC invite the week before the game and then has it rescinded after the FAU loss...)

They are definitely elite and there's no argument there but it will only take a single unit to **** up the teams chances like OL did to Auburn in peach bowl last year and i am not saying that 21 pt margin won't be a reality but i am simply predicting FAU with a little luck and few things goings their way can bag this game in Norman and of course the opposite is also quite possible.

16 Rice@Wake Forest - Wake Forest has been getting better in recent years and Rice is on the down turn NO UPSET to see here.

My reasoning was the last 3 years have been a downward trend.......This year is the unknown. I think the new Coach will be a positive, but still the unknown for 2018. Good Luck I think you will be heading in the right direction.

Certainly. They did last year. As long as the coaching change doesnt hinder them in any way.

I would hope UNT could beat Arkansas but I they're are just not a strong team and overrated by just looking at their record from last year.

Of course you do.
