South Alabama Facility Open
Didn't realize that they got the go ahead again on building the facility, but anywho here are a few pics.

Wonder if they went with the same folks who initially worked on it or changed to someone else?

To tie it in to UAB, South Alabama's QB Davis is now at UAB and looks to be 2nd to Erdeley in the depth chart at QB. Came because of Vincent.

Same contractor. They were contractually obligated to complete the project. The sub took the heat all though the GC is not very good. I have had them before and I’ll leave it at that.

Looks like they could have finished putting the walls up for an extra couple Grand. Just a few nails and some plywood needed. 05-stirthepot

They also are fighting similar battles with potentially getting a new stadium built in their area.

Also it doesn't look like their facility is tied to their football offices although maybe I haven't seen a great picture of the site yet.

& I agree - good for them on this.

One of the biggest differences I have seen with how UAB handled this is that UAB has had the business leaders of the city publicly leading the charge for projects since #TheReturn. It looks like USA went the political route and the mayor tried to strong arm it through and the city council pushed back. Will be interesting to see if they can resolve it.

USA campus is much further from downtown than UAB’s. As the crow flies it isn’t that far. Actually driving it is slow. I did Friday. I can understand some of the the distance to putting it out there.

Creg Stephenson@CregStephenson

South Alabama stadium proposal fails by 4-3 vote against. Daves, Gregory, Richardson support; Rich, Small, Williams, Manzie do not support.

That's gonna leave a mark. About a 10 million dollar one

You're right. Looks like Ladd-Peebles is about 258 miles from downtown and Legion is only 2.8

Wonder what the backgrounds/breakdown on those voting are/is?

We were just a swing vote or two away ourselves from being SOL.

Birmingham should go after the Senior Bowl once the new stadium is open.

Among other things.

I happen to believe though that this isn't the end of USA's stadium hopes.

Mobile is really screwing themselves on this. Our news just showed an interview with a citizen saying the field was too historic to have anything done to it. Basically USA has said they're going to continue to move forward with the project, so Ladd is going to look just as historic as legion field in about a decade or less and the city will have no money from the school to do anything with the property. Completely shortsighted on their part.

$15mil. The County Commission was waiting to see what the City Council would do.

The Senior Bowl is Mobile owned, not NFL. It won't go anywhere. The NFL may pull its support from the Senior Bowl and start/support something somewhere else. But, my guess is that the NFL will stay with the Senior Bowl and the Senior Bowl will move to USA once they build a stadium in a few years.

$500k a year to receive $2.5mil lump sum to repurpose Ladd Peebles Stadium into a high-end high school stadium, plus no charge for either Senior Bowl or the other bowl game. Now they have to spend more than $500k a year for upkeep to Ladd. Once USA builds the stadium, they lose the revenue of hosting USA games, but they have to still upkeep Ladd, and they start getting charged for those bowl games at USA stadium. Mobile city council and the people that voted against it are going to be crying about this when it happens.
