Why Brett McMurphy Is Still On Facebook
Pretty interesting story on how Brett McMurphy is still breaking big stories and being paid by ESPN---but ESPN doesnt own McMurphy's content. It always struck me as strange that McMurohy wasnt snapped up by another network.

The short version is---ESPN laid him off, but has to continue to pay the last year and half left on his deal. His contract says ESPN has to keep paying him--unless he goes to work for some other third party--at which time ESPN would only owe him the difference between what the other job pays and his contract deal. He asked to just keep on writing for ESPN until his deal is done--but ESPN refused. ESPN refused because they figured no reporter would want to be dormant for 18 months. They assumed McMurphy would go to work for somebody else---thus removing him completely from the ESPN payroll. Truns out---by just posting his stuff on Facebook---McMurphy still gets his ESPN paycheck and can continue to stay active in the biz---but can work at whatever pace he wishes. lol...plus I think its kind of a little "up yours" to ESPN by McMurphy.

He singlehandedly took down the 2nd greatest coach of the modern college football era a week after being denigrated a liar by him publicly.

LIVING LEGEND

It's a fantasy come true when Don Quixote destroys any windmill! It makes all of the Dulcineas of the world feel like Ladies in waiting and it gives every Pancho Sanza dignity and hope. And that is why Cervantes is popular to this day.

Good for Brett. More people should stick it to these large corporations like ESPN

Does anyone watch Stadium? Any ratings numbers?

Yup. And he probably couldn't have done it at ESPN. I doubt ESPN would let one of its reporters take down someone like Meyer, out of concern that Ohio State or the entire Big Ten would cut off or reduce ESPN's access.

I watch games on there. Flip over a few times a week to watch their news and talk shows. Better than the debate shows on ESPN and FS1.

But if you're interested in strictly sports news and analysis like Sportscenter used to be, CBS HQ is probably the best thing out.

There's an app and it's on CBSsports.com

, Right, but you’re a Marshall fan and CUSA shows game there, you probably wouldn’t watch if Marshall/CUSA wasn’t on there

Their news and talk shows don't involve Marshall or CUSA.

Good for him. Seems like a good guy. Keeps his cash and screws ESPN at the same time.

I'm glad he's making ESPN pay him the entire amount of the buyout. I'm also glad he's scooping them on a huge story. He's definitely going farther with it than he could have if he were still employed by them.

"Sources".

He was the only one who was reliable AND understood conference realignment. And he was probably the best at ESPN all around, not just the conference realignment niche.
