Are you shatting me? This can't be true.

One of those teams included in that mention is Boise St. which in 2014 finished 12-1 ranked 16th in the country....So he is setting us up for failure Day 1...

Coachspeak is normal this time of year. The time to worry is when your coach does not have good things to say about the team.

He threw last seasons team under the bus saying the talent in 14,15 and 16 classes were not good enough. Now he is saying this is most talent he has witnessed on any G5 team has ever been around....I guess this class of freshmen must be all starting instead of the depth chart I see now listing a lot of guys who are starting from 2014, 2015, 2016 classes.....It seemed in the offseason he learned his lesson from last season with all of the hyperbole "this is best team ever" remarks this off season. I guess he couldn't help himself media day...

Defense was without many key players but also looked really good, speed everywhere on the field and were swarming the QB,, multiple blitz packages were encouraging. Haven't been this excited since Cato's senior year. Thomson stays healthy, and it's Marshall's division to lose.

The Grad transfer from Wagner, lets see how does against legit FBS competition. He might have some coaches that praise him but game time against much better competition will be the true test. The QB's that look great in practice is a mile long

We played Wagner a couple years back, I don’t remember him making much noise against Rice.

I guess technically we’ll still have to wait and see how we does against *legit* FBS competition though 03-wink

Meanwhile on South Main, Rice has six QB’s in practice. Here’s a note on that competition...

And more on last week’s first day of practice:

I didn't realize you played Wagner a few years back, so I looked it up out of curiosity. It looks like Alex Thomson did not start that game and did not enter until about 5:00 to go in a third quarter (I'm guessing due to an injury to the started, as he entered in the middle of a drive).

Alex finished the game 5/9 passing for 127 and a touchdown. I'm sure you all had your starters out by around that time, but your backups should be better overall than Wagner, so I'd say that's still a pretty good showing.

I don't know if Alex Thomson will be a stud or a dud, but he did have a reasonably good showing against Rice when you played. Put him behind a good offensive line and throw in some playmakers around him ... maybe, just maybe, he'll be alright.

RE: 2018: Fall Camp Reports
The one consistent thing I've heard about Tech's fall camp is that the secondary is loaded into the 3 deep and the linebackers are probably gonna kill a quarterback this season. Also the wide receivers are gonna be exceptional if we can get the ball to them.

No one has been seriously injured. So it's going great.

RE: 2018: Fall Camp Reports
Good reports from people on Alex from last practice again. Green also showing the wheels but I'd take a true QB that can run a little, over another RB that can occasionally hit a throw.

Defense is, as expected, lights out. This may be the most talented defensive lineup and potential ive seen at Marshall, including the 99 team that was maybe the best to date. Good luck running on us. If i had to nit pick, our thinnest position is by far the secondary, but we have some good talent there to begin, but not as deep. LB, and Dline are gonna be balls out the whole game with so many to be able to rotate in and ojt with next to no drop off.

Ps.

Kicking game looked good as well. We actually made some field goals too.

Fighting is a no no under Dimel. First fight broke out and Dimel wasn’t having it. He made the entire team run. Under Kugler fights were encouraged.

Reports from North Texas indicate that Fine and his receives are looking sharp, and the defense is improving. Also, Freshman QB Kason Martin is impressing the coaches. Our starting center has been limited, so back ups have been getting some quality reps. Important juco transfers like Tim Faison (Last Chance U) are in camp. Right now things look good.

Today was Day-1 for ODU, so it was helmets only with not a lot to report. According to the ODU Football web site --

Junior running back Kesean Strong, who redshirted last year, ripped off a 60-yard touchdown run for the long play of the day.

Steven Williams connected with tight end Marcus Joyner for a nine-yard touchdown pass.

Sophomore kicker Nick Rice kicked a pair of field goals, one from 32 and from 35.

I don't see it! I don't think they win a game in August!
