I think the OSU football coaching job is above hiring up and comers. Although, I can see them having the arrogant attitude of trying to bring Tom Hermann back home, even though Texas could match them dollar for dollar. If Meyer leaves I wouldn't be surprised to see them possibly going the NFL HC/Coordinator route. Like a Gruden type hire. But I don't know who is out there.

Over on the "Realignment" board, someone suggested Bob Stoops...who is from the Youngstown area and certainly would be a big splash hire.

Mike Vrabel's name was also brought up and I guess he could be "an Ohio State guy" worth looking at.

When do the West Siders start calling for Kerry Coombs as osu’s HC?

Watch for Tom Herman. They love him in Columbus and I think he would leave Texas if he got the call.

Nobody seems to talk about Herman in Columbus, and Herman is a Texas guy. The interim head coach Ryan Day is someone a lot of people here like. If he ends up coaching, and coaching well... I can see him get a job.

I feel somewhat selfish hoping that this turns into local recruits turning to Cincinnati.

I think most, if not all of us here think that. Does OSU have many local recruits? It seems they have been taking very few Ohio kids over the past couple years.

I think a lot of UC fans would like OSU to hire him as head coach. It's not just us smart westsiders.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
Meyer has a history of turning the other way. That's why he may be in deep do-do now. During Meyer's six-year tenure at Florida, some 31 players were arrested, with at least 10 accused of crimes ranging from misdemeanor battery to felony domestic assault to felony theft to domestic battery. OSU was smart enough to put a provision in his contract that they could easily fire him if he let that crap happen again.

We might see him fake another heart attack soon.

I have a neighbor who knows how to spell OSU and he agrees with your neighbor's son in law.

I have a niece whose husband's boss has an uncle who lives next door to a HUGE OSU fan who's wife shops in the same Krogers where Urban's wife shops who says Urban will be back coaching before the second game this season because she wants him OUT OF THE HOUSE!

My parents live a street over from the Meyers, and I can assure you that she only shops at the Giant Eagle Market District.

I think they'll make a run at him but I'd be surprised if he left Texas.

OSU has Lindner type money and I would not be surprised if a deal was made with Urban resigning. Then expect him to resurface at another elite P5 that has fallen on hard times.

Same here...he has his entire 20 year coaching career in the state of Texas outside of 4 years combined at Iowa State and Ohio State.

RE: Goodbye Fickell?
Obviously Fickell isn't going to be up for consideration for a job of OSU's caliber until he wins big here, and that's not even counting the potential disadvantage of the Tressel and Meyer connections. I don't actively root against OSU, but I can't see this as anything but positive for us. I don't think we are going to start landing top 150 guys from the state of Ohio if OSU fires Meyer, but we might be able to catch a transfer or two we wouldn't have had otherwise if players start abandoning ship.

Even if Meyer gets let go, players aren't going to abandon ship. If anything this will hurt the pipeline we've been getting with guys like Trout.

I think he gets through this, if he doesn't, 0% Fickell goes there. He failed his audition.

USC or Notre Dame? They seem to like coaches who look the other way. 05-stirthepot

In all seriousness, I could see his smug face as a CBS/ESPN studio analyst for the next couple of years.

knowing someone in the Meyer family.. this is 100% on par with his "Win at all cost Morals be damned" approach to everything..
