I'm a generic millennial with a short attention span, and phone reception is never good enough to stream while at a game, so having a jumbotron showing other games (or goalline) would be amazing. One of my personal biggest hurdles to attending any football game is FOMO from other games on at the same time, so most everything in this article would help with that.

This is an interesting post that I hope smart people are paying attention to.
The “generic millennial” approach is one that I can’t relate to, but is the mindset of the fans of the future

Hopefully the BJCC will put in a distributed antenna system in the stadium like most new stadiums these days (and they're even being retrofitted into existing stadiums like Tuscaloosa, Auburn, etc)

With one of those, everyone in the place will have full LTE speed and coverage

This!

RE: (AL.com) How a New Stadium Could Build UAB's Fanbase in College Football's Top Market
I love the idea of having other games playing on screens around the stadium concourse. I think only ESPN goaline should play on anything visible from the stands. Have multiple games in the concession areas. I am a fan of college football and follow lots of teams. One of my gripes about going to a stadium is that the internet is usually too slow for me to check out scores. Bama games are pretty bad about not showing score updates in a timely manner. Historically their internet service has been bad too, so I just end up with a dead battery fairly quickly rather than seeing any scores. The idea of seeing the game from rooftops at Uptown sounds great. Minute Maid park here in Houston, where the Astros play, has buildings nearby in the background. It adds a lot to the experience when in the stands and visually when watching on television and seeing it in the background..

Just got back from Jacksonville FL. The Jaguars onsite IPF is bolstered on one end by Daily’s. A 2500 seat outdoor amphitheater but covered by part of the exterior of the seating of the Main stadium and the rest with tarps to the IPF. Nice venue. Neat idea. Realize that the BJCC will have plenty of venue space , however, just thought I’d point that out. The concessions/amenities for Daily’s were shared with the stadium on game day. If the BJCC needs to make a smaller venue to augment the stadium on site, they can steal this idea.

BJCC is renovating all their indoor arena space as part of this project. They may not be interested, in order to feed those, or they might run with that. It wouldn't, of course, be funded in the current plan.

I suspect they just build what's on the drawing board at this point in the plan.

Once again, we see desired amenities mentioned by posters. Is there a way to make these and other suggestions known to those who will make the designs turn into "brick and mortar" results? Perhaps someone who has experience in that field would know who to talk to so they know our desires. I know funding will be the ultimate determinate of amenities, but we can at least make them known during the planning stages when changes only mean moving a line on a drawing rather than a wall already in place.

All these desired changes not figured into the design are additional costs.

First we need to see the final design that goes to bid.

UAB recently met with the BJCC regarding the amenities they would like to see in the stadium. Coach Clark was happy with what was presented. So far, everything that Coach Clark has liked, I have liked. I think we'll be happy with the results.

Will it have running hot water, not be in a demilitarized zone, not be literally crumbling onto your head, and not feel like the game is going on in the grand canyon? then we're ahead of Legion Field. The rest is icing on the cake

If "being better than Legion Field" is the only parameter, it won't take much to please us.

To borrow your metaphor, once the cake is baked, all that can be done then is to arrange the icing. My concern is to make sure we get the cake we want in the first place as funding permits. Then add the desired icing.

From Joe Goodman via the Twitters:
Quote:Intel: the facility will be similar to a soccer stadium in that players enter venue at midfield. Architects Populous design soccer stadiums, including K.C.'s Children's Mercy Park.

Here's a link to the park for reference (also provided by Joe... you'll want to follow him if you don't already) https://populous.com/project/childrens-mercy-park/

The professional soccer stadiums are really cool. I've wondered why some of the things done with them haven't been used in the design of football stadiums. I think they are a bot more expensive to build , though, especially for the seating desired.

I wonder how much of that is just that Populous has designed soccer stadiums in the past vs. their actual intentions. They haven't officially awarded the design contracts yet so nothing really has been put to paper. The way Goodman's tweet reads, he or whoever gave him his "intel" seems to think Populous only designs soccer stadiums, which is not the case. They've done a ton of soccer stuff, but they've also done traditional football stadiums that are not anything like a soccer facility, so just because Populous is going to be involved doesn't mean anything in and of itself

The new Cowboys stadium has this feature- locker room entrance at midfield.

I will just be happy to have a new stadium and not have to get a tetanus shot because I attended a football game.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any meaningful matchups with Georgia Tech. Twice they have led us to the altar, only to back out at the end after contract negotiations were mostly completed.

1 - a 4 year home and home men's basketball deal when Gene Bartow was head coach

2 - was an extensive 10 year contract covering both men's basketball (10 games) and football (4 games) when Watson Brown was AD.

Two things likely ended the second. UAB almost beating UGA in Athens in football and Pat Sullivan recruiting north Georgia and beating Tech out for players.

I don't know the circumstances behind those series. We also canceled an upcoming series with Bama. But hey, we play UAB in ice hockey this season.
