Minnesota’s Recruiting Tactics
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2788...30-minutes
Quote:"They would text every 30 minutes. It was a lot to take in. You don't want to be rude about it. You try to be as nice as possible. They were the hardest school to say no to.
"Before I took my visit, I heard they would put you in the office and lock the doors and put an hourglass upside down and say, 'You have this much time to commit.' Good thing they never did that to me. Talking to Coach Fleck in his office with my parents, it was really tempting to commit because of the approach he takes. He's a really good guy, don't get me wrong, but he knows how to make somebody intimidated."

Guess you got to do what you got to do to get recruits to Minny-soda.
MAYBE winning Paul Bunyan's Axe more than once a decade might help.....

This is legal now? Yikes. Maybe a recruited high school player needs a burner phone to soak up all those texts so they don't have to deal with recruiters who are as thirsty as a 9th grade boy hoping to get a date.

Every text would put them farther down my list.
If they pulled the hourglass stunt, I would turn it back over and say, "Hell no!"

Seriously. Maybe that would work for a kid picking between Minnesota and North Dakota State, but it is still silly and manipulative. If I was a recruit with any other P5 option, I would flip that around and say, "You have an hour to convince me to sign here."

Perhaps the operative words here are "I heard". Have you considered the possibility that this is what Minnesota's competitors are saying to recruits to discredit Fleck?

You could say, "You have 10 seconds to unlock that door or I am reporting you for kidnapping a minor." Assuming the kid has a cell phone of course, which is pretty rare these days.
This is an example of why I think kids should be allowed some kind of representation. You have goons from a multi-billion-dollar industry hounding 17 year olds (or younger) with little or no care for the kid. As a parent, I don't know anything about the inner workings of college football. One misstep and the kid is selling pencils on the street corner.

I value education, but IMO any parent who decides not to send their child to a major university on the basis that it's an unhealthy (or even unsafe) environment should not be criticized... they have valid points! This stuff has been out of control for some time now, with no concrete signs of getting better any time soon... and it's not just athletics either: fraternities and sororities, even academics at times can cross the line with sad results. JMO though.

Seriously. There is a day of reckoning coming for higher ed and all the bull**** games it plays on students (we already know what these places are good for if you work there). Long overdue, imo.
