Here's a recent construction image of the interior of Strahan Arena you can compare with the photo posted above.

Lot of work left to do as you can see, but new hanging video boards have been installed (compared to the one affixed to the wall that is now torn down in the pic above).

RE: Who has the Best Athletic Facilities in the SBC?
A-state has strengths & weaknesses, so TX St, UL & Troy probably have the best across the board.

Our strengths: Football (once the north endzone is completed), Basketball is as good as any and has the capability for indoor track that most SBC schools don’t have (maybe none)

https://www.collegegridirons.com/stadium...k-stadium/

Average: Track & soccer...they share a field, volleyball since it shares with basketball...it’s sets up well for volleyball but it’s a shared facility and some schools may have a dedicated VB facility.

Weak: baseball is not bad it’s just not anything special...it needs the most attention...rumor is that once FB is done baseball gets a new stadium and women’s softball takes over the bb stadium...then A-state might jump into the top tier.

RE: Who has the Best Athletic Facilities in the SBC?
This is the first year I can remember that TXST has summer renovations going on all 3 major athletic facilities.

Football is getting new video boards that will be 5x the size of the previous ones.
Basketball is getting a complete $62.5 million facelift.
Baseball/Softball are getting the old football video boards. Baseball installing a new turf field, renovating/enlarging dugouts, building off-field visitor bullpen.

Very nice! I'm not familiar with the team accommodations in the Cajundome for UL; but one disadvantage is that the arena is only available to the teams during specific times since it is "managed" by the city. It is on campus property and I believe "owned" by the university, but used as a multi-function arena. Women's volleyball is still housed on the main campus at the old E.K. Long gym. Smaller venue fits volleyball nicely I think.

RE: Who has the Best Athletic Facilities in the SBC?
USA can’t make the claim because we don’t have our own football stadium, but once we do we will be able to make an argument. Our other football facilities are excellent and basketball, baseball, and softball are really good. Softball recently had an upgrade to the stadium and added a hitting facility, and baseball is going to completely rebuild the clubhouse in the next year or two. Baseball also made improvements to the hitting facility as well.

RE: Who has the Best Athletic Facilities in the SBC?
Ultimately I think with Arkansas State we're really hit and miss...

Football is the crown jewel for Astate (duh so is majority of everybody else lol). Once our NEZ project gets completed by the beginning of the season, I think we'll be neck in neck with Texas State's and Troy's football stadiums.

One thing I was not able to highlight with the arena pics is the fact that the majority of the athletic administration, coaches and RED WOLF Foundation offices are located inside the arena as well (Terry has been very vocal about the fact that people are literally on top of each other at the moment) and despite athletics "creative" ways of utilizing the space at the current football complex, its also inadequate for the current needs. Once the new complex is open (still aiming for early 2019 completion date last I heard), I'm very excited to see how they'll utilize the old office spaces in the arena as well as the old complex.

I didn't realize how awesome are players locker rooms were until I began gathering these pics to show y'all (particularly basketball and bowling-WOW!)

Without a doubt, our sore eye is baseball. For a league that's current claim to national prominence and competitiveness is baseball, it's simply embarrassing to have the facilities we do. Fingers crossed Terry will follow up with his public claims and this will be addressed once football projects are fully complete.

Also disappointing to see the inadequate facilities utilized by both rugby and softball--granted, both are only at "club" levels and not fully sanctioned university sports but they have been without a doubt the most successful athletic group representing the Red Wolves.

Truth be told, don't keep up with collegiate track, soccer and tennis so I'd hate to give a full on critique-I have been told that university officials at Astate absolutely HATE the current soccer configuration (constant fear of players falling and injuring themselves on the track surrounding the soccer field) and I think i'm not the only Red Wolf on here that'll tell you where all these fields and complexes are located it is a PAIN to get to (they all border railroad tracks that run right along the campus' south edge) and University planners didn't really do a great job of keeping access to the fields easy (Not to mention there's virtually no parking). However, from what I've seen from other universities throughout the state, I'd say Astate's facilities are on par if not a little bit better looking than UALR's, UCA's, UAPB's etc.

Voted best new course by Golf Digest in 2014. Link below.

https://gseagles.com/news/2014/11/16/MGO...40310.aspx

Since 1983, Golf Digest has been the leader in golf course rankings. In the November issue, the Georgia Southern Golf Course ranks among major championship courses such as Trump National Golf Club in Doral, Florida, and Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.

Probably ArkSt or UL to this point. GS needs the Home / South stands major expansion and a new basketball arena to be in the conversation. Hopefully the ball gets rolling on these things soon.

RE: Who has the Best Athletic Facilities in the SBC?
My top 4.

1) Louisiana: if they get that football stadium upgraded they will put some
Distance from Troy. The baseball stadium is top, softball stadium is on top, basketball arena is among the best in the league.

2) Troy: football stadium is tops in the league, basketball arena is top 1 or 2 in the league, baseball stadium is top 4, softball stadium is newly built with a indoor facility and also among the top in the league. Indoor football practice facility needed.

3) Texas State: football stadium is among top in league, baseball, and softball is one of the better facilities in the league. Basketball arena isn’t as good as the top 2 but I’d put it somewhere in the upper half of the league once that wall is replaced.

4) Ark State: their baseball stadium and non existent softball holds them back at 4th, otherwise once the football stadium is done they would probably move up, however that baseball stadium is not good. The Basketball arena is fine.

Coming soon. The new soccer stadium is a joint venture with Tormenta USL as well as GS's mens and womens soccer with locker rooms and digital signage throughout the venue capable of highlighting the game day atmosphere for whomever is playing.

[Image: 5a95a3e45d601.image.jpg?resize=1200%2C666]

Should be a nice addition for the conference.

I was flabbergasted when I first read that line about USL having a presence in Statesboro ro (until I discovered Tormenta is debuting in the USL Division III!) regardless looks like a nice facility!
