Boston College Opens State-of-the-Art Football Indoor Practice Facility
Boston College opens its new $52.6M Indoor Practice Facility!

This will be one of the most advanced facilities in all of college football. It will include:
  • 120 yard field that will have the excact same turf as Alumni Stadium
  • A 31ft.W x 18ft.H video board (only one of two in the ACC).
  • Cameras in end zones and mid field that will record practiices and be able to instantly display replays on the video board.
  • Outdoor practice football fields that will have the same video set up.
  • 12,000 square ft. strength and conditioning center (twice as large as the one it is replacing in the Yawkey Center).

The facility will be ready for summer FB practice on August 3rd. (The plywood in the photos will be covered by an extensive padding system.

The existing weight room in the Yawkey Center (FB Building) will be converted to other uses for the team.

All of the major facilities - 44,500 seat Alumni Stadium; 8,600 seat Conte Forum (for BB and hockey); the Yawkey Center (FB Building); and now the Fish Field House - are all physically interconnected.

Finally, the old inflatable "Bubble" will still be utilized in the winter months (covering the Alumni Stadium field). Suffice to say, BC will now have some of the most extensive indoor facilities in the Country.

This has been a busy time at BC for sports related construction. The new baseball and softball complex was finished this Spring and the new 240,000 square foot student recreation center will be completed next summer. Next on the horizon - a new BB practice facility!

Until the next school builds an even more advanced facility Then BC will be behind again.

Where does this facilities arms race all end? I guess when everybody goes broke.

Sorry, I guess I am spoiling the big grand opening.

Very nice BC! I hope our new indoor practice facility will be at least half as nice.

Hopefully they're also planning on opening a state-of-the-art offense at some point soon as well.

Hopefully the new facilities reignite a BC program that not too long ago went to back to back ACCtitle games only to slump into mediocrity

Jeff Jagodzinski coaches two years - both ACC title games - with one top 10 finish and gets fired for interviewing for the New York Jets.

That was the start of the Dark Ages.

If I hear the words "state of the art" one more time I am going ballistic. This is the most overused set of words in the history of the world. Basically, every time someone builds something nice, it is "state of the art". No, you just built a nice facility, building, item, etc. Everything in the world can't be state of the art.

state-of-the-art:

the best and most modern of its type, very modern and using the most recent ideas and methods

Something can be state of the art today and no longer be state of the art tomorrow when someone builds something or designs something even better. The most common area that I can think of are computers where a new technology could be state of the art today and six months later someone makes a new computer with even better technology with more memory and all kinds of extras.

Thank you, cuseroc, for an excellent response! You are 100% correct. “State-of-the-Art” is never permanent. It may be true today, but not tomorrow. As they say, “the wheel goes around”. Hopefully, being state-of-art” “today” means it will take that much longer to become obsolete at some point in the future. (As eventual obsolescence is very much a reality for almost everything!)

That's impressive. Congrats on the new digs.
