Yes!

(But I have to say I’m not a fan of using “brutality” in promotional material.)

It’s been our phrase since Bloomgren took over. Every recruit tweets it, I like it.

It's not simply a phrase or motto; it truly is the underlying philosophy of Bloomgren and the coaching staff...and it's the battle cry in the effort to change the culture-- both on the field and in the lockerroom. High standards have been set for each individual player, and if they don't play hard and smart, they're held accountable, and are forced to run laps after practice. Almost one-third of the roster was forced to do so yesterday. A refreshing change from years past. When asked the other day what he's most looking forward to, Bloomgren responded without hesitation, "the first day in pads". Gotta love it!

RF never dies!

I’m all for brutality, as long as it’s intellectual.

I like the poster.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the phrase and understand why it's popular with the players, fans, etc. No problem with it. I just think it works better an unofficial motto than an official advertising line. Just my opinion. I never played the game.

Again, it's not an advertising line, but rather the underlying philosophy of Rice Football under Bloomgren. It's instilled in recruits during their first visit to campus (as it's frequently tagged when the tweet about their visit), and if you've ever spoken to Coach Bloom, he lights up every time he talks about it and explains the philosophy.

I have never heard the philosophy explained.

Maybe you could explain it for me?

I'm OK with smashmouth football. I am OK with controlled and selective aggression.
Football is a tough and physical sport. But I associate brutality with cruelty. Not a big deal, but since it is a topic, I just want to understand better what coach means by it.

Again.. and?

More interested in performance, results and behavior than anything else. I couldn't care less whether our coach looked like Brad Pitt or the exact opposite - as long as the results and actions are where we need them to be.

The aim isn't to build Herculean raw strength, but rather functional athletes who're resistant to injury. That means a major focus on mobility, stability, flexibility and core strength. Turley calls it "real-world functional man strength." He customizes every player's program to their individual needs, integrating many of the same movements they'll need to make on Saturdays. The workouts are far from easy, but every rep serves a purpose. They're brutal, but intelligent.
