Thanks for the lead - hadn't seen that yet.

I'm not sure if our opponents will allow us to start 13 guys on offense and 12 on defense. I'm guessing only 3 of those 5 WR/TE positions will count, and then I have no idea what Viper is on defense.

Still not exactly sure what happened to Gregor MacKellar.

He transferred to St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Gotcha, sounds like homesickness... Which is a bit of a surprise given that he went to a boarding school for HS.

Maybe we should’ve opened a Tim Horton’s here for him.

I laughed out loud when I read this. 'Been traveling in Canada the past week. I've discovered Tim Horton's. The Canadian McDonald's!

Scrimmage info. Offensive line worries me this year. Sounds like the Dline is consistently winning and the LBs got to the QB a few times.

I just don’t think Ashfield has much to work with, to be quite honest.

Pierce is a good leader and elder statesman but no world beater and beyond that, you’ve got guys who haven’t played much or at all (in the case of Shea Baker, who looks to be our starting center).

Okay, this made me chuckle. Years ago I was involved in a touring show in Vancouver. At that time Tim's wasn't very big in BC. Our soprano was from Newfoundland. Every time she saw a Tim's she would squeal and would have to stop so she could get the classic double double.

This article on the toxic culture at Maryland Football explains how someone with Coach Lembo's pedigree might have been available and willing to come to Rice...

Yeah, we goin' send this one out
To everybody that put mo' into they cars than they do they relationship
Let's ride
Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you
Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you
Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you
[Luda] It's get out, put my pedal to the flow and let's roll!
Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you Two miles an hour, so everybody sees you

Yes, 7 cars, 8 cribs and ain't a damn thing changed
I'm still pumping 10 kickers, still gripping the grain
Still candy in the paint, still riding them things
And most my folks would say I'm happy but I still feel pain
Until I, jump in my ride, that's my only escape
Me and my automobile's got these neighbors screaming, "Gimme a break!"

That's awful. I've been asking myself how we were able to get Lembo away from a major program like Maryland. This probably has something to do with it. Durkin should be arrested.

A couple of sidebars....I really like the work of the new creative videographer for athletics Caroline Hall who came from Mizzou. Look forward to seeing what she produces on game day.
Second love the look of the players at practice. All are wearing clean jerseys and pants, all match, and all have numbers. It gives the look of a sense of pride even if it is just a practice uni. More changing the culture by the staff...well done.

The Maryland situation is going to get really ugly...and deservedly so. It's my understanding that the AD and the President were aware of the situation and decided against taking appropriate action.

There should be criminal action taken and the program should face serious action.

A horrible environment, to be sure, but from what I've read no crime was committed.

RE: Football practice begins today
Since we're talking about college football news/controversies that vaguely are connected to Rice, it's also interesting that Ohio State's coaching controversy supposedly started because Tom Herman alerted some reporters about the issue with their assistant coach and his domestic abuse history. And some people are speculating he only did it because of a battle over a 5-star recruit.

That's truly sad on a number of levels if true.

McMurphy has denied that but who knows who to believe.

Michelle Herman does admit to giving money to Courtney Smith.

Its emblematic of the state of big time college football today. If Maryland was playing for the National Championship, this story would've been buried deep. And the fact that this type of behavior was known about by their administration and ignored indicts the whole miserable bunch of them.
What will happen? Some suspensions. Some resignations. That's about it.
