RE: Ever seen this jersey?
Is it against some sort of NCAA regulation for NIU to offer official jerseys for sale? I remember a few years ago when Jiff Comphers was AD, they attempted to have a sale for donors of actual jerseys from the Adidas catalog. But it was so poorly organized with no one to assist us, that I ended up walking out empty-handed. Why couldn't something like this be offered by Athletics or the bookstore? We could really use some new NIU clothing rather than the same things in the bookstores year after year.

If the jersey has the player's name on it, it probably turns into a name/likeness issue (similar to what happened with the NCAA video game franchise). Which I can see both the NCAA and (primarily) NIU being concerned about. Not sure why the NCAA would otherwise care?

It can be done, but licensing has not been a priority for the university or athletic department. Huskie Sports Properties sucks with apparel, unfortunately.

Yes, I'm aware about the issue with the name. If NIU would sell these without the name right out of the catalog (with a built in profit margin), they could make some good money. Hire a couple students to help administer it and ship the jerseys out when they come in, and there's another source for some revenue. Or, let the fans order directly. To me, it makes sense, and that's why it won't happen.

+1 can't have a current players name on the jersey, but they can sell merchandise with past players names

it also has to do with the cut of the jerseys now. These are skin tight, designed not to be grabbed. plus with the space for shoulder pads it gets goofy looking. i think there isn't a large market for them to warrant the time/coordination needed. When they auction off the special game ones they have a tough time selling all of them.
all that said, i keep an eye on ebay in case ones pop up.

They’d turn such a profit off #15 jerseys.
