Purdue HC Matt Painter w/ a great take on recruiting rankings

"Me and you and our grandmothers can sit down and say these 20 guys are the best in the country. But from like 21 to 300 it's a crapshoot. How do you know what's inside somebody?"

He's making nearly $2million a year... also brought in from within... he's been on staff since 1989....

He doesn't have to share 80% of the kettle with the football or hockey team. They don't have either. He has a pipeline to the NW AAU and takes advantage of it. Washington and Wash St are not NCAA sweet 16 tourney contenders annually. The top kids in that area look Gonzaga first then Pac 12. No other P5 conference exists within 500 miles of Spokane. If Gonzaga was on this side of the Mississippi recruiting against B12, B10, ACC and SEC would they be as successful. I highly doubt it.

I'm sure Hawk is out there watching film and visiting recruits as well.. no one talks about it because he isn't in the basketball hall of fame and coaches at WMU not MSU. 03-lmfao

How a program competes for good players

There's a reason the WMU program is still trying to dig their way out of the abyss.

And it ain't "facilities".

The damage and stench still lingers.
