FIU football 100/1...
Not sure if this has been shared but that is just flat out crazy, which is fine with me because I'll be at the Superbook in Vegas this upcoming week making my wagers. I'm for sure dropping a nickel on FIU 100/1 odds to win the conference. Handicappers putting a lot of stock into departures and not taking into account the additions. Deepest roster ever in 17 years.

$50,000 in December gonna feel great!!

I would drop a penny on FIU to make it to the Champ game (not win it). Then a $10K call option on TWTR in December.

Not taking the mick, but what additions have you made on defense? Tart-Spencer and Humphrey are highly touted JuCo recruits that should make an impact on the DL, but that's not the issue. You're losing your 2 best LBs (losing 4 overall, only returning 2 LBs with any playing time), and your entire starting secondary. I mean you're only returning 1 S that made any sort of impact last year. What experience do you have replacing that? And I don't mean unproven talent at the FBS level. I think that's where the issue lies. You can have depth of potential, but you don't have the proven experience. That will be our issue after this year with so many seniors graduating.

And that's just looking at the defense. Let alone losing your QB, top RB, TE, top WR on the other side of the ball, you've got a lot of pieces to replace.

I'm not disputing the lack of experience, but 100/1 odds to win CUSA by the sports books just seems very irrational. I'm not going to do a full summary analysis of the roster here but we are very deep. Bottom line is that we have some really good unproven talent and FAU last year made a splash with significant transfers that were also largely unproven or came in with risk. Biggest area of concern is clearly the secondary, but some of the key additions are:

Jordan Wood DE - via Gatech 4 star rated
CJ Worton WR - via Univ FL 4 star rated
D'Ante Demery OT - via UGA/Hutch JUCO 4 star rated
James Morgan QB - via BG 4 star rated
Teair Spencer DT - via Ellsworth 4 star rated
Tayland Humphrey DT - Hutch 4 star rated
Edwin Freeman OLB - via Texas 4 star rated
Sterling Palmer TE - Postgrad 3 star rated

**By the way, clearly the star rankings are meaningless and what matters is production on the field but it's promising to know some of these guys were highly regarded coming out of HS or Juco and I saw an immediate impact in our spring game with some of these guys (Demery, Wood, Worton, Palmer).

I'll also be hedging some of my CUSA wagers with $$$ on FAU. Cant' wait for football, only 5 more weeks.

The reason why I was so high on both FIU and Florida Atlantic last year was because we were 1st and 4th, respectively, in returning production in all of FBS and we made some great coaching hires. Actually, out of all our transfers last year, only 1 became a starter - DT Taleni. QB Johnson sat out due to blood clots, while QB Robison and WR Durante sat out due to NCAA transfer rules. WR McNeal saw some action with 23 catches, while WRs McGriff and JF3 only had 8 and 7 catches respectively. OG Tuihalamaka and DEs Bagner and Bonner saw very limited action, while LB Daub saw even less. Many of these players were also 4* out of high school. And many of these players won't start again this year. We only lost 1 starter on D this year and that was Taleni. For the OL, we're bringing in Tulane's starting C Diaz (who played 4 years of high school with our LT Bain) and Florida OG Riles who should beat out Tuihalamaka for the starting position. So I guess what I'm trying to say is the experience we had return last year, paired with the offensive mind of Kiffin, is what ultimately led to our success; similarly to what B Davis did at FIU. That's why I'm hesitant when I see this year FIU is in the bottom 5 for returning production in all of FBS, while the rest of the East returns a significant portion of their rosters. Honestly, with the experience that players will gain this year, paired with a mass exodus of players for everyone else next year, I could see FIU being the team to beat in 2019. I think everyone else just brings too much back this year. But, I do agree with you that the 100/1 odds is excessive.

And I'm looking forward to the Shula Bowl again this year; it was such a great game last year with significant implications for both teams. It should be the same this year. 5 weeks can't come soon enough! Lol.
