RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
I haven't heard anything about Gamble being in the RB mix. As for QB depth (someone correct me if they've heard differently):
1) Barrett
1a) Crum
3) Phillips

Also, anyone know if there is a definitive third string qb or is that up for grabs? On paper Will Phillis seems like the logical choice. The O line was not good last year, and there isn't much reason to expect that to change. So the sad reality is who ever wins the QB job will be lucky to be standing when we get to the Mac schedule. The first string QB didn't make it there either of the last two years.
Without checking, don't think the first-game QB has made it to MAC play since 2012. May be wrong ... certainly not since 2013.

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
This is Allen Moff's fall camp wrap-up. Highlights:
-- Lewis won't name a quarterback before the Sept. 1 opener at Illinois. Still between Crum and Barrett.
-- Center Nate Warnock will wear No. 54 (Jason Bitsko's number that goes to "most deserving offensive lineman").
-- "Golden standard" players who have earned single-digit jersey numbers are LB Nick Faulkner, RB Will Matthews and CB Jamal Parker. In spring, LB Matt Bar and S Elvis Hines got single digits.
-- RBs look like Matthews, Justin Rankin and Jo-El Shaw (JC transfer).
-- Lewis has repeatedly mentioned NT Kalil Morris as standout defender.

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
So pumped for the ‘18 season under the new regime! No doubt there will be some growing pains this year, but I think the program and all of us needed a change of scenery. My season tickets arrived yesterday, and I can’t wait to crack the first beer @ the Howard tailgate. Will also be traveling to Ole Miss on the 22nd..

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
A handful of predictions for the season:
1) We'll be better disciplined. Fewer penalties and boneheaded mistakes on both sides of the line.
2) Coaches will hold players more accountable. No more excuses for poor play. No more pats on the back for trying really hard.
3) The scores will not reflect it but we'll be competitive in our out of conference play. No rolling over and collecting a paycheck.
4) The O-Line will make or break us. They'll be the difference between us going 1-11 or surprise some teams and winning 3 or 4 as we rebuild.
5) We'll see a standout freshman from SL's first class. My top 3 likely candidates would be Connor Parks, Julian Sams or Matt Harmon.
Thoughts? Your predictions?

I'm trying to not get my expectations too high - as I always seem to for hoops. I expect, as you indicate, better overall effort and expect it for four quarters not just a half. I am really hoping to see some offense and see us throw the ball more with more downfield patterns - that could open up a decent run game. I'm with you a lot rides on the O line and we already lost one starter for the year - depth is an issue here. Excited to see what our QBs can do.

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
I'm interested to see how the carries are divied up. On paper it seemed like Rankin and Shaw would be the top two backs. It seems like Lewis really likes Mathews though so he's certainly going to have a role.
Another interesting thing. I saw Myles Washington is now listed at Rb/Te on the roster. Seems awful short to be playing TE but he'll be much faster than most TEs so it could create some matchup problems.

Have no predictions .... however, if memory serves there were way more penalties on defense than offense last season, often turning third downs into first downs then touchdowns ... and defense was by far Kent's strong suit (trying to do too much) ... only scoring 8 touchdowns in the red zone was a bigger issue ... rolling over for a paycheck may point more to the administration than the team ...
O-line ... what O-line???

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
Just read this article from USAToday about football payouts. It had this little nugget inside of it..
"But when you’re Oregon State, and you’re struggling to compete financially within the Pac-12 Conference, or when you’re a school in one of the FBS conferences outside the Power Five, you take to the road. Kent State will collect $3.65 million by playing three of its first four games this season at Illinois, Penn State and Mississippi (its first Mid-American Conference game also is on the road, so Golden Flashes will play one home game in September). Next season, Kent State is set for paydays of $1.9 million from Auburn and $1.5 million from Arizona State. And in 2020, it is due a total of $5 million for games at Arkansas, Kentucky and Alabama."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc...131488002/
I knew we collect a nice chunk of change for the payday games but $5mil in 2020 seems crazy to me.

We will be staying in Memphis (Olive Branch). Plan on doing game and then staying a couple extra nights to see some of the sites. Does anyone know tv situation for the game tomorrow? It looks like my ESPN app is trying to sell me subscription to ESPN+ if I wanna watch the EMU game streaming right now....assuming Kent will be same?

40 minutes until kickoff... I am ever hopeful that we wont watch 500 receiver screens and QB draws!! I just need to this team actually attempt to win this game. I don't need a win just need to see them not give up.

RE: KSU Football 2018 fall camp/season
Stefano Millin has started @ left tackle for the Pitt Panthers the 1st 2 weeks of the season and Shane Hynes (I thought transferred to South Carolina Gamecocks) K, but it looks like he ended up @ Wayne State pursuing his masters degree and kicking for them.
I sure hope that Jim Jones injury isn't serious and that they just sat him out in 2nd half as a precaution. The true freshman kicker looks to be steady & solid. The DE transfer from Nevada, Jordan Silva, had a really nice game vs Howard, I hope that continues as Oboigbe & Morris are solid up front.
Anyone know if Dominic Hill (DT), Zach Corrigall (OG), Eddie Brecht (OT), & AJ Musolino (LB) are injured currently? They all played last year, so interesting if the new players beat them out or if they are injured. I know Gregoire (OT) is out for the season.
