The UK Finally Allowed a Sick Baby to Seek Treatment in the US Now...
Quote:Following a “miracle” surgery, baby Oliver Cameron is tumor-free after the United Kingdom allowed the child to seek treatment in the United States.

According to Boston Children's Hospital, Oliver suffered from cardiac fibroma, a non-cancerous heart tumor.

Doctors in the U.K. found the surgery to remove the tumor to be too dangerous for them to complete. The only option for Oliver was a heart transplant.

This strategy was almost certainly a death sentence because Oliver would have to get in line for a transplant. According to the U.K.'s National Health Sevice (NHS), the waitlist could take years.

“They said our only option was a heart transplant,” Oliver's mother, Lydia, said, “but we thought there must be another route, so we started doing our own research.”

Luckily for the Cameron family, doctors at Boston Children's Hosptial recently completed a similar surgery and knew they could operate on Oliver to remove the tumor.

The only problem for the Cameron family was that they live in the U.K. under socialized medicine.

“Oliver's cardiologist spent hours of his own time trying to get Oliver to Boston — he kept applying and reapplying for the National Health Service to cover the surgery in the U.S., but with no luck,” Lydia said.

Since 2017, two children, Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans, both died amid with global outcry after the High Court ruled that the children could not leave the U.K. for treatment.

After starting their own fundraiser, the Cameron family received the news of a lifetime: The NHS was going to pay for the surgery and would also send doctors on the trip to learn more about the procedure.

According to the Telegraph, the NHS said this case was different from those of Evans and Gard because there was not “a surgical service in the U.K. with experience of treating this exceptionally rare condition.”

After an eight-hour surgery, Lydia was notified that Oliver was tumor-free.

A damning indictment on the dangers of socialized medicine. Once again, makes me glad to live here in America.

Yep.

And one that will be ignored by the socialists and Europhiles on this board.

Just more proof positive that socialism and healthcare are always mutually exclusive.

Something else too: Isn't refusing to let these children go to another country for treatment a violation of the Hippocratic Oath ?

This is why I continue to suggest an Amendment preventing the federal government from denying a citizen access to private health care services.

but but but, if people have a right to a choice of healthcare, then only the lazy dipsh*ts will be in the socialized side of medicine. Who'e going to pay for all of those freeloaders healthcare if working people have a choice not to participate?

Someone at the NHS must have realized they could use some good publicity. Fighting in a court of law that a child must not receive medical care will do some PR damage.

The doctors weren't preventing, the Gov't was. Read the article again, the cardiologist in the UK was trying to get the kid to Boston.

So which of the two systems is the one which actually has "death panels"?

I mean I’m not in favor of socialized medicine, but the UK paid to send him over here and have the surgery, and he’s tumor free now.

Isn’t the argument against socialized medicine that the “death panels” will just let you die when you become too expensive to care for? If anything, the socialists will probably point to this as a win.

They will try to, which is the only reason they allowed this to happen. The UK socialized medicine/government fiasco has had britains and the world dumbfounded at the complete control they weild over people's healthcare. Keep in mind, a couple of other boys WERE DENIED ACCESS to foreign healthcare, even though it would be paid for by foreigners, AND UTILIZED A POLICE FORCE TO BLOCKADE THE HOSPITAL TO ENSURE THEY DIED THERE.

The reason for this is simple; if you allow exceptions to the complete control over socialized medicine, people will see that there is a better system, and they will want that instead of the complete controlled clusterf*ck of socialized medicine. When that happens, the people who can afford to will leave the socialized medicine, which means there's noone left to foot the bill for the free loaders.

The only reason they agreed to this is because of the previous sh*tstorms they had to endure, including the police barricading the exit to the hospital to ensure the family did not try to leave with these kids and dare to get actual healthcare. If people see that people in other countries have access to healthcare that their big government controlled system does not, and how the government is forcing people to stay away from care, then the system will likely collapse as well. They are simply trying to manage the collapse of the house of cards.

They initially refused to pay. It was only after they were backed into a corner.

And they've previously demonstrated they would NOT allow children to come to the US -- even if other countries extended citizenship.

No, make no mistake about it -- socialized medicine is a special kind of evil which holds the power of life and death as decided by a balance sheet.
