Democratic Presidential Horse Race thread
In the world of the 'forever race' for President, might as well start this now.

I see the stable running as:

Warren
Booker
Harris
(maybe) Biden
(maybe) Cuomo

What is amazing to me is this is a stable of 4 career Senators; something that was a rarity on Presidential candidates up until the present.

If it is this group, it will be wild. Warren, Booker, and Harris (and Cuomo) all race to the left hard core (like 'Sanders-style left') to get the nomination? That seems to be the feel of the Democrats these days is that the 'moderates' (and I laugh when I say that, since Clinton is no 'moderate') seem to be losing a crapload of traction of the Democratic Party of the 2010's.

Dems seemed to really lurch left under Obama, and seem poised to take another seriousl seismic shift left from there. Dems are doing the mirror-image of the Tea Party self-viewing that started to happen to the Republicans in 2008, and one can trace the roots of that Tea Party populism almost straight through to Trumpism.

Have to say, out of that group named above, I would only seriously consider tossing a vote to one of them: Slow Joe. But at 76 right now, seems a little too long in the tooth to me to generate a viable 'refresh' that that the Dems seem to be aching for. Not just long in the tooth age-wise, but his 'moderatism' doesnt really seem to have a home with the Demos.

(I put 'moderatism' in quotes, since Joes beliefs are nowhere near the moderates of 20 years ago, *and* because Sloe never seemed to meet an idea he wasnt willing to copy. The older people here will realize the humor in the word 'copy' as it pertains to Sloe as well...)

Would love to hear our board's progessive-bent to opine. Speaking on (or comprehending) many aspects of todays liberal/progessive viewpoints is seemingly not very easy for this classical liberal/libertarian/Chicago school/textualist throwback to the Jurassic Age.

I am less concerned with which figurehead they will run (maybe Ocasio-Cortez?) as their platform.

Abolish ICE
Open borders
higher taxes
less defense
apologize to the world

Since my Clinton vs. Giuliani prediction of 2008, I don't make them anymore.

Interesting observation about the number of senators.

It's not that they don't run (LBJ, Humphrey, Scoop Jackson, Lloyd Bentsen, Fred Harris, JFK, RFK, and EMK, Clinton and Obama).
It's that few are directly elected from the Senate.

Its only been in the last 3 cycles that the Senate has started to be seen as a launching pad for many of them. I think it goes to not having a 'long record' to have targeted.

RE: Democratic Presidential Horse Race thread
4 career senators? Maybe Biden fits that category and perhaps Warren but Booker is 49 and has been a senator for 5 years. Harris hasn't been a senator for even 2 years yet.

I'm also bemused by all the attention on Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old who isn't even eligible to be president or vice president until 2024 (and she barely is eligible then).

I probably wouldn't vote for any of the people the OP mentioned - I'd vote for Bloomberg or Kasich as an independent candidate instead. But if you ask me for a likely candidate, I'll say Harris or some Hollywood celebrity who actually switches over to politics like a George Clooney.

Agree. Harris checks all the boxes.

Female
Minority
Far Left
California

The DNC is going to have to work overtime to keep her off the ballot.

One name I'd watch is Mitch Landrieu. He has been on the Sunday morning news shows a lot recently and denied that he intends to run, but i don't buy that.

He was the mayor of a large, Southern city. He generally does a very good job speaking about complex and potentially divisive issues without being divisive. And he is fairly centrist, but unlike Clinton, he does not have nearly the same baggage she did, which means anti-Trump Reps may be more comfortable voting for him over Trump.

You must have been watching CNN this morning, as I am now. He was on Tapper’s show.

Yep - and I saw him on another show a week or two ago.

I’m a big fan of Tapper and try to catch his Sunday show when I can.

Landrieu was featured on a 60 Minutes story on Confederate memorials.

He's probably too young for this cycle, but Joseph Kennedy III is getting buzz.

It will be Harris, Warren, or Biden.

Perhaps Biden will actually write his own speech this campaign.

I get the joke. FTR, good one.

BUT...

I guess you don't get the point that only one of those two plagiarists wants to be president, or is wanted by others to be president. so a bit apples to oranges.

so, in your opinion, a presidential candidate committing a crime snd the spouse of a candidate committing the same crime, is a wash? No wonder you wanted Hillary.
